More broadly I really like the idea of anonymising posts after a period of time, not just for user privacy but also because I think it would solve the problem of people liking the post because they like the poster rather than because they agree with what they say, so it would encourage more frank and honest discussion.

I didn't think about this, but you raise an excellent and interesting point. I remember this definitely happened in the comment sections of Jezebel and, after that, The Toast. After all, that's how "Daniel" got much of her following--in the comment trenches. It'd be interesting how much the proposed system would work to prevent that effect, and I know I can recognize some people's writing styles even if I'm not looking at the poster name, making anonymity a little more difficult, but to a certain extent that is unavoidable. I kinda like the idea, though. It's a nice happy medium between image board-style and normal forums.
