hey fyi ppl with DID think systemhopping is fake as shit lmfao

EDIT: because this thread is full of misinformation

1) Actual DID serves a purpose: a coping mechanism formed by a very young child. Alters have purposes.

2) in actual DID, identity crises are common and switches get mistaken for mood swings for a reason. It’s commonly very covert. As a result, MOST people with the diagnosis doubt themselves.

3) OSDD exists, which is basically DID Lite and is even more confusing and hard to deal with but still a thing. I would recommend looking it up.

4) anyone who claims they formed a system naturally is full of shit. It doesn’t happen.

Now you are more equipped to actually locate people who are faking and appropriating a mental disorder. Go out into the wonder that is the pluralgang tag and join people who actually have DID in wanting to gouge your eyes out with spoons.

My problem with the new OSDD is that it makes it ridiculously easy for fakers to claim they have an actual dissociative disorder - the "mixed dissociative symptoms" example they give essentially states that you can have alters without amnesia. Unfortunately these trenders take that to mean "I can have a little mansion in my head where all my headmates talk to each other and fight and get married and shit BUT IM VALID"

Oh god DifficultVore. I know this person. They are a massive creep, a babyfur, a disease fetishist, and a zoophile and I have fucking hilarious chatlogs but they're incredibly vindictive and kind of scary (muh schizophrenia) and weaseled me out of a lot of personal info when I was younger and impressionable. They also try to weasel people into meetups. Also they imcessantly post and talk about how they were sexually abused as a toddler (allegedly).

Sorry if oversharing, I was just surprised to see that name.

I can't see anyone with a real diagnosis from a legit professional still doubting themselves. Unless you really, really don't trust your doctor.

DID is extremely covert and alters aren’t active at all times. Being mentally ill, slight disturbances in your “norm” are very jarring and can make you doubt your diagnosis. Like if you had chronic pain and some days it was more manageable than others... if you woke up with no pain for one day, wouldn’t you doubt if you were worth the care “real” disabled people get?

real OSDD (1b is the variant with no amnesia) is extremely jarring and upsetting. The identity confusion that comes with the lack of amnesia makes it hard to tell what’s actually happening and who is who at what time.
Internal relationships do happen and it’s... weird. You gotta realize these people have legit issues.
But it does certainly get used as an excuse by some who don’t really have systems or have psychosomatic symptoms. Look up “tulpamancers” and grab a bottle of wine for a fun time.

DID isn't real lmao

Wanted to say that this is accurate. Those that truly have it wouldn't be plastering it all over the internet since the cause of these "alters" is to protect them from the severe abuse they had as a child (core diagnostic of did is there has to have been severe abuse, usual sexual in nature during the early formative years). DID is also usually not diagnosed until adulthood because once again the alter job is to make them appear normal. It is so rare that dsm-v prevalance data just says 1.5%, but has to state it was done on one specific community which skews the results unlike other data which is quite broader.

The DSM-V also has a section on those that fake the disorder:

"Individuals who feign DID do not report the subtle symptoms of intrusion characteristic of the disorder; instead they tend to overreport well-publicized symptoms of the disorder, such as dissociative amnesia, while underreporting less-publicized comorbid symptoms, such as depression. Individuals who feign DID tend to be relatively undisturbed by or may even seem to enjoy "having" the disorder. In contrast, individuals with genuine DID tend to be ashamed of and overwhelmed by their symptoms and to underreport their symptoms or deny the condition. Sequential observation, corroborating history, and intensive psychometric and psychological assessment may be helpful in assessment.

Individuals who malinger DID usually create limited, stereotyped alternative identities, with feigned amnesia, related to events for which gain is sought. For example, they may present an "all-good" identity and an "all-bad" identity in hopes of gaining exculpation from a crime."

so how many alters do you have

Google exists and I know how to use it.

Exactly this. It’s always clear and very suspect when alters have extremely shallow personalities, except in the case of OSDD1a. Fragments exist and are meant to be an emotional handicap, but don’t ever really “front” or present. I’ve seen some people whose fragments interact and shit and just.... ok. :/

Malingerers often
• are extremely introject-heavy (ie every single alter is from one show)
• are fixated on “switching” often and as dramatically as possible
• talk a lot about amnesia
• stress that their “trauma” came from a “past life” or intentionally try to create new alters

Disorders are not fun, “headmates” is a stupid term, and people with DID often suffer “passive influence” or have intense spells of dissociation and headaches. Identity confusion is common, and boy do a lot of young tumblr kids like to act like they know every little detail about their 10 highly stereotyped alters and exactly who is talking when at all times.

Will probably post some screens later today re: “tulpamancers” and “endogenics”. Because what’s a farms thread without laughing at snot nosed idiots who think mental illness is hip and trendy.

(EDIT, sorry just woke up: via clearing up misinformation on the thread, by the way, the people who are being fake just sound even more stupid. It’s one thing to point and laugh at anyone who uses the word “alter”, it’s another thing to have context and know why you’re laughing.)

I'm here to make good on my promises, don't ever say I don't deliver. Please be kind also and get me a little bleach to wash these down with.

this is like antivax moms who google what they want to find, then get frustrated when all the sources say they're wrong.
straight up fucking admitting there's no evidence to back their claim... but making the claim anyway.
oof.

everything about this is a gift. the description of his "system" as a harem. the bit about reincarnation. and then telling people with trauma that they don't know what trauma feels like.

Oh jesus christ; I know this person too. A few months ago they were adamant about calling themselves a "vegan cannibal". I smell a new thread on the horizon...

Like, tell me straight: would someone who "has" DID use plural pronouns?

Yes, but mostly only when referring to the system as a whole specifically, or when uncertain of their identity (again, it can be hard to tell who’s who when).

Or, if they “have” it or are endos, the answer is yes, for the sake of being trendy.

Are you in some sort of mental health field that brings you in close contact with people who have DID on a regular basis? Not trying to sound like a dick, but my understanding is that true cases of the condition are extremely rare, so I’m partially just curious how you know so much about people with legitimate DID.

Used to hang around as a stupid kid who was into trendy mental illnesses with groups of people who either really had it or faked it. Got sick of it and did a fuck ton of research so I could call people on their bullshit.

When you spend time around people who want to trend shit or only get information from tumblr, it helps to actually be educated.

Edit: also, it’s not that rare. 1.5% of the US population is still almost 5 million people. If you filled a church, 1-2 of those people would statistically be afflicted.

A discord server for people with DID with 90 members (assuming none of them are malingering) is 0.001% of the total population with the disorder.
