Pokémon (Not-So) Griefing Thread - Scarlet and Violet Released with 10 Million Copies in First 3 Days in Buggy States

Huh, kinda weird that this happened but in another game that I play (FGO), I got one of the characters by the same designer who worked on sun and moon/sword and shield (take)

They are the trung sisters and there is also a pokemon like elephant in their hats (also there is the Kon)

I remember when Poliwhirl was popular. Those were good times.
Was Polywhirl ever that popular or did TPC just push that line hard in the marketing lol. I don't mind him but I never remember him being anyone's face despite being all over

The problem with Poliwhirl regarding "popularity" is that in the US, it wasn't properly promoted and advertised until the Gold/Silver series anime when they decided to give Misty one (whom eventually evolved into a Politoed). Outside of that, it's only had minor appearances starting with the Episode where Mankey/Primape fucks with Ash and crew.

I remember him being on some merch here in the UK too

Still thinking how they dropped contests in pokemon games when in gen 4 it was so much better than gen 3 that they should give a more complete story to it like the anime did
I enjoyed having more to do with my Pokemon than just battling. Ribbons were nice for personalizing your Pokemon as well. Having more utility and purpose to my creatures beyond glorified cockfighting is a big reason Palworld sucked me in, and a big contributing factor to why I just can't care for current Pokemon, as hard as I try. It's stale and all the nice side shit you could do with your pets largely don't exist anymore.

I guess my problem with contests were that it was just ribbons as rewards, it should have a whole campaign separate from it with more rewards like costumes or even itens for secret bases. In the same way that I was never bothered to complete most battle towers or frontiers, if there isn't a reward that is cool to achieve and it is just grinding I just don't feel like doing it.

I liked the battle trains in BW because it had rewards for your normal playthrough instead of being too late in the game.

One example of how the concept is great and the execution is mid is the trick house in hoenn. It is almost like a pseudo gym but the rewards are absolutely terrible and in a normal gameplay you can skip it easily.

It got higher billing than Pikachu and Charizard in the US.

The problem with Poliwhirl's popularity is that it simply wasn't popular.

Well, I managed to get myself addicted to Pokemon Pocket (ended up emulating). No, I haven't spent a penny nor I intend to do it. Managed just on boosters to get a Mewtwo Gardevoir deck going in a day (managed to get both Mewtwo EX, one the fancy animated type in the first booster, and Gardevoir, yet not a single Raltz and ended up just buying them with booster points). Surprisingly addictive for how simplified it is compared to the standard TCG.

Similar to Clefairy. In the original manga run I remember it was pushed as THE partner pokemon, but never caught on. Now I'm wondering at what point did Pikachu become the face of the franchise with others being activelly pushed, as well as the starters.

Raichu should have been the mascot if they were hell bent on the Pikachu line.

I'm at the point where I'm suffering from Pikachu-fatigue since they stick this thing in EVERYTHING. Raichu is so much cooler looking and doesn't have an annoying high-pitched voice.

Wouldn’t work. Picachu is inherently more cute and cuddly.

If anything Pikachu needs something that can make it hit like the poster child of the franchise it is that is not locked behind one game or another.

Poliwhirl's popularity is largely due to Satoshi Tajiri liking it and it being subsequently pushed in marketing; it faded because it was never as popular with the fans as it was with its creators. Granted each Gen has had Pokemon like that - Marill was famously Gen II's attempt to replace Pikachu - but Poliwhirl is remarkable given how hard it was pushed compared to how quickly it was forgotten.

Marill (colloquially Pikablu) was only cool and exciting when it was appearing in early media like Pikachu's Vacation and Southern Islands TCG as an all-new Pokemon, beyond 151. Once GS actually released, that dropped off, partly because how rare it was. It was in Union Cave, which was totally optional anyway. You stumbled across it early game but it was dark and you moved on. The encounter rate by walking was 1% (not impossible, but it would be like running into Clefairy on Mt. Moon...unlike Clefairy there was no indication Marill was there). Surfing was significantly better but by the time you got Surf you had a good water 'mon anyway.
