The potential future of pokeman. Ultra Sword/Shield 2, give us another 60 dollery-doos.
I kind of agree, I posted either here or on another forum but I initially thought they were going to roll out DLC and that's why the game was kind of barebones with what we knew from leaks, but after the launch I started thinking they were probably going to do their new thing of "Not release a third, more inclusive version, not release a ___-2 type sequel, and not do DLC," instead just re-release the game with minor tweaks and maybe what would be DLC pack in for full price again. I really hate that strategy.

I also know the game is "for kids" but theyve dumbed it down so much since Black/White that even a kindergartener would roll their eyes at how patronizing the games have become. You can build a plot without hours and hours of basically meaningless dialogue that literally spells it out, "HEY DROOLING RETARD STOP LOOKING AT THE COLORS, HERE'S WHAT'S HAPPENING SINCE 3 MINUTES AGO".

Honestly to me it started with XY, not BW. Gen V was the last one where the games actually felt like a complete package with the sequel actually adding on to the original. The world was rather linear but its not like the previous generations were that much better.

Anyways on a different topic I don’t understand the massive obsession with people wanting an open world Pokemon game. Such a game would be awesome but I am tired of this mentality that open world is the end all of game design. You can make the perfect Pokemon replica of BotW but it means nothing if the game world itself is a soulless husk devoid of atmosphere, decent plot, and good characters. I know Pokemon doesn’t need to have a deep plot or characters but give me an actual reason to care about the world. No amount of open world or freedom is going to do that if there isn’t.

Figured I'd give an update - The interview was fake. https://twitter.com/GotNintendo/status/1201244388766212097

Here's the person who recorded the conversation, so Shyguy is a fucking idiot.
I honestly cannot believe people would go this far to make fools of others.
What a fucking idiot.

I think the whole open world thing would be cool in a perfect scenario. That perfect scenario being if you had a company working on it that gave a shit like a CD Project Red. Having a full interactive world where the creatures live and interact with the environment would be amazing if they actually did the work to make it. Imagine a No Man Sky planet in terms of environment size, Minecraft passive mobs AI in terms of environment interaction and all in the package of the Pokemon world with the Pokemon as the creatures.

I understand the "obsession" as you put it. It's just a pipe dream because the IP holders are lazy. Maybe in a decade when everyone is playing VR headsets and physical media is dead you might see a Game Freak make the VR Pokemon world and turn it into a MMORPG. They will likely partner with another developer to do it so the new developer can do all the heavy lifting of coding.

A pokemon MMO? Oh boy can't wait to have nightmares of all the furries using VR pretending to fuck the pokemon in the allyways and corners of towns.

If any game could make up for lack of engaging story with a solid open world, it's Pokemon. The Wild Area is way more fun than I expected, fleshing that out more would be killer. I haven't cared about a Pokemon games story since Gold and Silver, I could give a fuck less how dumbed down and childish they make the narrative if the actual monster hunting mechanics are there, and it seemed like they were on there way there with S&S.

Like obviously, the money side of things means we'll never get one, single, fully formed and cohesive "Pokemon game". But even with S&S, they were clearly on their way to doing an impressive game and it seems like they just stopped halfway through. Like shit, cut the story out entirely, tweak the wild area into being the entire map, and make you a "Pokemon professor in training" where the entire game is just hunting monsters, and I'm sold.

This was most of my problem with it as well; like obviously, I'm not expecting "colorful monster adventure" to jive 100% with my tastes as a grown man. But the thing with kids is that they play games they perceive as "cool", and what they perceive as "cool" is generally what older kids and teenagers like. Which are game like Fortnite and CoD when they can get their hands on it. High energy, action packed and completely different than what these games are. Like I said in my initial thoughts, if I was a kid and this was my introduction to these series, I'd be bored shitless over the constant start-stop-start-stop storyline, and the fact that the game is speaking to me as though I'm retarded.

It really did seem like they almost reverted back to the gen I-II age of plot where it's just you on a journey to be the best. Nice and simple. Perhaps even more simplified since, for all intents and purposes, there wasn't an evil team to stop (no Team Yell doesn't even remotely count). Which hey, that's perfectly fine. Sometimes it's nice to just collect the badges and whatnot.

...Except, like I said, they almost did that. The last hour of the story was the most forced tripe with the tired "Important figurehead does something with the big bad legendary so you have to stop both of them" plot beat. Even with how obvious it was that Rose was the "villain" it still felt like the "twist" at the end came completely out of nowhere. It really didn't need to be there at all.

I understand that Pokemon never was nor ever will be a bastion of RPG story telling, but even by its own standards SWSH was so, bleh.

All I want a good story balance. Pokémon doesn't and shouldn't need a massively deep plot and epic writing but at the same time it needs to go a step above "get badges and become champion." It is just that GF can't balance shit to save their lives. They were extremely close to hitting the mark in the DS era only to do their infamous "one step forward two steps back" routine when they reached the 3DS era.

No idea where else to put this but I wanted to share this person trying to cancel a Pokemon with you all for a quick laugh.

This almost plays out like a parody, but it was drawn out for too long to be self-aware.

By the way, this is Hatenna's Shield PokéDex entry:
"If this Pokémon senses a strong emotion, it will run away as fast as it can. It prefers areas without people."

And Hatterene's Shield entry:
"If you're too loud around it, you risk being torn apart by the claws on its tentacle. This Pokémon is also known as the Forest Witch."

Best part is the Pokémon is exclusively female. :story:

Ahh Yes we know pokedex entries are all 100% true.

Man that guy on twitter is stupid as hell.

If all dex entries are true then Alakazam is fucked.

Alakazam's brain continually grows, making its head far too heavy to support with its neck.

How many years do you think a alakazam has before his head explodes from his massive brain growing even bigger?

Gigantimax snorlax had been added to the raid taboe for an event.

I mean, there are literally hundreds of pokedex entries more messed up than Hatterine's, so I dunno what the big deal is.

I like Rampardos' entry, basically its got a little tiny pea-brain so it can have more skull with which to bash shit, so it's a dumdum who only knows how to unga bunga smash. Also the very first Rampardos that was revived escaped captivity and bashed down a skyscraper.
