Pokémon (Not-So) Griefing Thread - Scarlet and Violet Released with 10 Million Copies in First 3 Days in Buggy States

I am okay with modern gym leader designs but the lack of variety of overworld trainers sucks. Its fun to see, like a delicery man or taxi driver, but by putting in so few choices (and removing most series staples) it really makes it stand out how oddly specific the few types that did make it in are. And they could have at least given them multiple faces. I am still slogging through Scarlet but can tel you already that my final review won't be pretty.

So apparently that "Pikachu with Grey Felt Hat" promotion they were going to on the Pokémon Center's online store only lasted about an hour until the promo was listed as being out of stock with many potential customers complaining about the site breaking during said promo.
It's especially noticeable after Sun and Moon, you can't walk five steps without a tutorial popping up, you can't explore because everything that's not plot relevant has some ridiculous roadblock, and most routes are straight lines with some tufts of grass on the side. I'm still mad about Ultra Megalopolis
I remember reading somewhere that Game Freak was worried about competing with mobile phone games (as far as getting kids' attention is concerned) and I kind of agree with the whole "Yokai Watch's initial success card the crap out of The Pokémon Company" bit people keep mentioning.

Who else thinks the wild area feels like a very empty petting zoo?
I mean, every area seems to be the same area, as if they got cloned but each changed a bit; with different weather, grass colors and some minor other elements.
This is why I think the people who were clamoring for an open-world Pokemon game have created series' new biggest problem now.

An open-world is only as exciting as what you can do, and find in it, and so far, every open-world Pokemon game has failed spectacularly at that. Yes, even PLA.

Outside of finding items, Pokemon, and battling, there is nothing to do. There's no secrets, no cool easter eggs, no fun sidequests, no cool environments, or hidden details, nothing. It's just a vast world of nothingness, and for some reason, people are treating that like it's somehow better, and radically different than what we've had for the past twenty years.

Finally beat the Elite 4 in SuperGold97 and completed the main game. I was woefully underleveled, so my Miltank was completely useless. Thankfully, despite my other Pokemon being also underleveled, my good movesets made sure to give me a fighting chance. Gengar was the most useful one, not only was it powerful and able to put enemies to sleep but it was also faster than every single enemy I fought due to massive amounts of training and DVs I got from it, that included a pokemon nearly 20 levels higher than me at one point(and an enemy Gengar about 10 levels higher than me). Steelix was surprisingly useful as well, as thanks to it's neutrality to Ground type moves, it was actually PREFERABLE to switching into when moves like Dig or Bonemerang came flying. Tank hit, use Screech, tank hit again, use Iron Tail, next Pokemon.

The Elite 4 was pretty good in this one, but I think it was largely the same as in the retail game, aside from a few different trainers and Pokemon on the roster. Still, I'm proud I was able to beat it with an underleveled team.

Consulting the guide, it looks like the post game is comparable to retail game's Kanto expedition: There are Sevii Island equivalent which make up the meat of the post game, where one can find all the Kanto legendaries(2 cats and 3 birds) as well as fight Blue, who is the equivalent of a post-Elite 4 boss battle like Red is in retail. All the Gym Leaders and Elite 4 now have better teams I will have to face last due to ridiculous levels they're at now, so I'm not skipping out on 8 more badges either. I got my work cut out for me, I guess I will come back here with my final thoughts once I 100% the game. My advice if you're playing at home? Get a Gastly early on, and make sure to include at least one Steel type on your team(pay attention to the new chart and remember that some existing Pokemon had their typing switched around as well)

I don't know if I can explain it but does anyone here feel like Sinnoh is the most "generic" region? The newer regions are very themepark-y and I think the first three have a unique feeling to them with maybe the exception being Kanto.
Sinnoh was fine. It actually felt like a real place and had a nice charm to it, I also liked how it was colder than most other regions and had this rich history behind it. Team Galactic and the legendary Pokemon also made sure to give this place character that I think few other games do these days, for example it seems most of the legendary Pokemon don't fit the lore of the region anymore in newer games and are just there as marketing gimmicks. Plus, there is the entire Arceus game which I am sure explores the region even more, haven't played that one.
I think European based regions are the most boring. Kalos did a good job of making you feel like you're actually a Kalosian, but the region itself is boring and uninspired, nothing about it screams "France" aside from a few castles here and there and not-Paris that serves as the main hub. Galar isn't that bad, but the region is extremely linear and the game it's in is garbage, not to mention the extremely limited LOD that bothers me in open areas. Less said about Paldea the better, it is a bootleg mobile tier region and even Gamefreak are already tired of it themselves. Give me "boring" regions like Kanto or Sinnoh that are just modern day Japan any day of the week. Hell, give me Orre, that region was also great despite not being able to explore most of it.

Its not like those people were also saying "gut all the side content", "make the world bare and barren," "put down clumps of shitmon every five feet!", "give all overworld trainers only one or two mons", "have maybe three side quests total," "make the enemy teams even more pathetic." That was all on TPC.

If there’s one thing I can agree with the wider Pokémon fandom on, it’s the apparent consensus that Trade Evolutions are fucking retarded nowadays, and that they need to bring the Link Cable into the Mainline series.

Yes this has been said here, but it’s nice to see even the hyper autists that make up the wider fandom can occasionally come to agree on something.

The biggest problem with Pokémon going Open World is that Game Freak, as a studio, doesn’t have anywhere near the talent level to pull it off. LA was probably the best attempt we’re going to see at an Open World Pokémon title, and that notably wasn’t made by Game Freak.

With the sheer regression we’ve seen with this company over the years, I’m legitimately wondering if someone at Nintendo HQ has entertained the thought of taking the cash cow and giving it to people who are actually competent - then I remember that because this franchise is a cash cow, the only way that’s going to happen is if Gen 10 bombs harder than Nagasaki…

I haven't played any games after USUM but I've seen playthroughs of SV and the trainers look like the result of spamming randomize on a character creation screen. What happened?

And is anyone else disappointed that unique pre-battle themes disappeared in gen VII? It's a tiny detail but it gave each trainer class its own personality.

I think it just the result of doing two mainline games at the same time that they didn't get to design more non important NPC models.

I'm pretty sure The Pokémon Company is a 3-way joint venture between Nintendo, Game Freak and Creatures. I don't think Nintendo can fire Game Freak, even if they wanted to.

i've been unfathomably autistic about this specifically since I first played SM
I noticed it immediately and it was probably the first time I ever felt genuinely negative towards a pokemon game
probably would've been after finishing ORAS if I'd played gen 3 first, but I didn't so instead I got on the hate train because the game wouldn't let me waste a minute and a half listening to music before a battle started lol

That got rid of the Battle Frontier in ORAS.

Outside of the characters' names and the academy looking like that church in Barcelona there's nothing Spanish about the game. And thats a good thing.
How come that is a good thing?
