Pokémon (Not-So) Griefing Thread - Scarlet and Violet Released with 10 Million Copies in First 3 Days in Buggy States

  • 🐕 I am attempting to get the site runnning as fast as possible. If you are experiencing slow page load times, please report it.
So Hisuian Zorua is weak against Regular Zorua.

Also for my shiny story I want you guys to go back to the old times of Gameboy Pockets and piss poor internet forums. Rumors that you can "Find a different Colored Ditto on this route."
So I spend a few hours and batteries searching near the daycare for one such Pokemon. Now mind you I had a Gameboy Pocket Which means no colors except monochrome. So eventually I get tired and decide to give up and spacing out. When just this I think my screen is going dim as an Abra comes into frame. I decide to catch it since as a db kid I avoided it for my dex. Next day I connect it to my transfer pack on Pokemon Stadium and discover that Abra was actually shiny. But since Shiny Abra is so similar to regular Abra I didn't notice till it was a pink Alakazam.

/vp/‘s nearly finished suffering chart. Any thoughts?

I've wanted a normal/ghost type for years. Hopefully it doesn't end up with some bizarre stat spread or a terrible movepool.
I wouldn't worry about the move pool as this is Zoroark and it has a pretty good selection of attacking moves (along with having nasty plot).

As for the stat spread, they'll likely carry over the glass cannon-y stat spread of the original to it with a bit more emphasis on the offensive stats.

Generally speaking, Regionals don't wildly change the stat spread. And for the exceptions, its usually because they had a different (usually better) plan in mind entirely and distinguished the Pokemon as such.

Zoroarks stats are 60 - 105 - 60 - 120 - 60 - 105. So assuming they don't try to reinvent the wheel, we'll probably still have a good sweeper.

Now, the most dramatic single stat changes between a pokemon and it's regionals are:

Darmanitan (Zen Mode) - Attack from 30 to 160

Galarian Zen Mode, rather than trying to change to a defensive form mid-fight, instead becomes an even more aggressive and fragile attack form. This works much better with Darmanitan's build overall, and doesn't require managing two seperate forms. It's undeniably an improvement.

Persian/Perserker - Speed from 115 to 50.

Perserker is basically an entirely new and unrelated Pokemon, and it's stats are wildly different as a result.

G-Meowth - Speed from 90 to 40

As it's evolving to an entirely different pokemon, it's stats undergo similarly drastic shifts to match.

Cofagrigus/Runerigus - Swap attack and special attack, 95 and 50 each.

Again, they're presented as entirely different Pokemon. Not to mention, this doesn't wildly affect their competitive viability, as they just change which attack stat they prefer.

No one else has a stat swing bigger than 30 points. And I'd argue in most cases that the stat swing plays in the Pokemon's favour in the extreme cases.

Not to mention, some don't have their stats change at all.

If I had to take a guess at what the stat change will be, it'll be just swapping the attack and special stats. Perfectly viable, if a bit squishy, but a good type combo will help a lot with that.

I... what?
I'm pretty sure if you see a Pokemon in one of the squares, it's not the entire species but whatever one shows up in an anime or something. This is a chart ranking how much a character has suffered vs how much they deserved it (according to /v/). (5,5) means they didn't suffer at all and don't deserve to be, (0, 100) means they (Darkrai here) was a complete asshole but got away with everything, (100, 100) means maximum suffering and they earned their terrible spot. Grovyle and Gardevoir from the Mystery Dungeon series are given perfect spots on this chart, imo.

Okay, but doing some basic maths, there is 400 of these fucking things. Something like this really needs like a list of the characters and their placement reasons or something.
WTF did Chesnaught do, and how tf did he suffer

The type overlaps for hisuian pokemon is FUCKING KILLING ME

Zoroark and baculegion both ghosts
Wydeer and Zoroark being normal
Braviary and wydeer being psychic
Kleavor and Growlithe being rocks

REEEEEEE
Yeah, while other regional forms and equivalents had overlaps, with Alola having a similar number, they werent anywhere near so tightly packed.
With that said... every single type these Pokemon have is justified by their strong thematic relationship to the region and time period, or have the potential to disadvantage the pokemon (making Wyrdeer Ice would lose it's ghost immunity and pile on a heap of weaknesses). I think I'm okay with them sacrificing variety among the regional newbies for thematic appropriateness.

Maths really doesn't factor into it, and the chart is a meme format (there's an /a/ version and ones for specific anime casts). The increments of 5 are just arbitrary, I've been out of the Pokemon scene for years but I can look at that chart, knowing the meme, and know that whoever is at (100,100) is a total bastard of a character but probably got an entertaining asskicking for it. The characters chosen are just whoever /vp/ finds the most memorable, nobody will bother doing every single character.

edit: A list like that would be useful but if you don't know who they are (like I don't even know what species that red bird at 100,100 is) it's not really important, it's just for fun and not like a really autistic 4chan-approved rating

I like that sonichu is on there for some reason.

I like that they put JustinRPG on there, I don't think he suffered that much, but I could be wrong. I haven't followed him as actively as I used to.

So, Legends Arceus is in the "Riddle me this, Batman" phase of leaks.

xd161848avu71.png

These are apparently a series of japanese puns hinting at 12 incoming Pokemon, at the time it was sent. The guy in the middle of the top is one piece character Roronoa Zoro, which was taken as confirming this leak was real when Hisuian Zoroark was announced.

It's also worth noting the top left (The yokai Damona from Yokai Watch), the Buff girl and the moon moth were part of a preceding version of the leak, and are (apparently) based on the starters new hisuian evolutions. So we know who those three are, vaguely.

Community speculations are below.
So, let's start with the starters.
9: The moon moth is apparently a pun for Greninja, also known as Gekkouga (It's 'moonlight' and 'moth', and each word can write '月光 (げっこう, Gekkou)' and '蛾 (ガ, Ga)' in japanese.) As we know this is one of the starters, it's taken as a reference to typing, making this a Water/Dark type for Oshawott.

6: The buff girl is named "Little Bird", apparently, meaning this would likely apply to Rowlet, and make it a grass/fighting type.

1: By process of elimination, this means Damona, the Yokai/Spirit, is applying to Typhlosion, and likely it's form is based on a Yokai. Speculation is generally that it's a ghost type based on some well-known yokai.

For the rest, I'll go left to right and down the list.
2: We already know who Zoro is referencing.

3: The two cloudy hearts are believed to be referencing a new Mythical, which is a wild step to me. It's apparently an entirely new pokemon, so people stopped speculating there.

4: It's a Pokeball Pokemon. Do I need to tell you what it's likely a reference to?

5: Most people think this is the "Lady Noble" Pokemon Arezu is guarding. Apparently the character is Maki from Love Live, an idol-based japanese anime so speculation is all over the place - Jynx has been mentioned.

6: Already mentioned to be rowlet evo.

7: A cactuar from final fantasy here, also known as a Sabotender. Two speculations here. One, it's a cactus-themed Sudowoodo (as sabotender basically means Cactus pretender). The other is a pun based on the name of Cactuar's signature attack, Thousand Needles (Harisenbon), which is similar to Qwilfish's name as Harisen.

8: A steel type slug or slug-adjacent Pokemon - believed to be potentially Dunsparce.

9: As mentioned, it's Oshawott.

10: This is Project Habbakuk, a plan originally conceived by the brits to make an aircraft carrier from Ice. Avalugg's dex entry suggests it being 'an aircraft carrier made of ice' already. Others suspect it might be a mantine evolution.

11: This is from the manga Esper Mami, with the yokai in question being a kamaitachi - a "Sickle weasel" Yokai. Many thus suspect it to be related to Sneasel.

To expand on this a little further, some may remember a climbing silhouette leaked early on. Other leakers have claimed that is an evolution of sneasel, in which case I will actually ejaculate because I love sneasel and my biggest issue with it is that it's feather gets ruined by weavile.

12: Apparently this is an ursaring evolution. And it can be ridden. This was confirmed by a different leaker.

To elaborate on Ball Guy Leaks a little more, he's given us some concrete numbers:
7 new pokemon, 17 hisuian forms (unclear if there's overlap)
A line of pokemon will receive a regional form right from the baby stage - it is not Elekid, Magby, Riolu, Chingling, or Munchlax. It's worth noting that the evolved forms of Smoochum, Bonsly, and Mantyke have all been suggested from the riddler's images, and the only sinnoh pokemon not seen yet include Happiny (but Blissey has been seen) and Togekiss. (the others are Lickylicky, Weavile, Dusknoir and Spiritomb).

Who is the clown bear... the source picture, that is?
Probably from the open season movies

Isn't this just a copy cat of previous fake smash and pokemon leaks?
