My Plat playthrough is nearing its end. Is B2W2 to BW as Platinum to DP? In other words, is it essentially the same story with slight differences? Will I get more or less the same experience if I forgo BW and just play B2W2?

I suggest if you play B or W that you follow up with the corresponding B2 or W2. Personally I feel those games are a real peak of the series despite the weak starters - Emboar is just way too slow with all the good moves having drawbacks, Serperior really misses not having Contrary, and Samurott is a case where it should have stayed on two legs.

They were going to make a Grey edition but the guy in charge of the third edition wanted to make a sequel instead. Negative reception to lack of older Pokemon played a role in that, so they shoehorned in some in New Jersey inspired area at the start and called it a day.
So no, it's a brand new experience with a new story, new areas and remixed locations. I would say it's well worth it, one of the better games to date(Just the movie minigame is going to take you a lot of time to 100% and you can have some fun with unconventional endings later on)

So, I went back to Gen 7 online, since servers are shutting down in April.
Sad state of affairs, Battle Spot is completely dead, GTS is hacked to oblivion and many Pokemon crash the game when you even hover over them(not even trade for them, like it was the case in Generation 6). At least Wonder Trade is still around, however it takes noticeably longer to get a hit(it was near instant last I played)
Shame it's not going out with a bang, was hoping that the deadline would attract old time players for one last hurrah.

Apparently the GTS crash fix has been fixed by the community, but obviously Gamefreak doesn't care to fix this game-breaking issue themselves
This means you need a hacked 3DS to actually be able to view the GTS like intended, but at that point you can also hack and cheat any Pokemon you want, so what's the point?

Battle Revolution? Honestly, they're destroyed by original Stadium for N64, just like with Sword and Shield. When I recently played (Grand) Colosseum, which I covered in a post a page or two ago, I was being SPOILED in every battle. I dread when I finish Gale of Darkness and have to go back to still pixels or shitty 3ds "animations"
BTW since we're on the topic, alternative to GC or Wii era models and animations I would also accept Gen 5 animated pixel art. Those were 100% SOVL and I am saddened we will never get anything like this again

Cinderace not only has defined glutes. but also defined calves. The clown shoe feet all add to the uncanny feel, like it's a guy in a suit. I could tolerate the "job" nature, as @Lone Star so aptly put it. I could even tolerate the stupid little Jeremy Beadle-esque hands. It's the legs and feet more than anything else.

For all I hated the Galar starters, those are clearly bunny front and hind legs and paws. I have no issue with them.
