It has nothing to do with Eviolite. The reason new evolution stages don't happen often is because the moment they do that, they have to go back and give a bunch of Pokemon the same treatment. Plus, they have to rebalance the entire game around it. New evolutions carry the same problem as Megas I listed above.
Scyther is a special case and it has one of the worst typing combos in the game. There's nothing wrong with Scyther. Scizor gets the benefit of being a Steel type, one of the best types in the game.

One big lesson Gamefreak did learn there is that they absolutely could not risk fucking up on the starters because they make the first impression on anyone playing the game. It doesn't matter if the game has Darmanitan as an insane fire type if you set the game down before you get to Lenora. Having Lilligant get insane later thanks to Quiver Dance and Own Tempo Petal Dance on does nothing if you drop the game at Burgh.

The only soy thing in SV aside from the character customizer crap was the MoistKrit reference and that's only because he's a Soylent laced faggot. Other than that, it presented what I person think is probably the best round of Pokemon in over a decade from a design perspective.
Again, Arwen got pissed on by everybody, and was treated like a dumbass even though he cared about Pokemon and people in his life. Penny was just a spoiled Antifa bitch, but you're supposed to be cool with her and her faggot buddies never mind they exploited and harmed Pokemon like the Fire member. Aside from a few Pokemon like King Gambit, Greavard, and Primape's FYAD Ghost form a lot of the Paldean designs were kinda shitty (Pawmo is discount Pikachu with a 3rd form). It's not my fault the Japanese hated all of the human character designs like the manly female hikers and the Elite 4.

I mean you might be making shit up but it sounds so exactly like what GF's been doing since gen 7 (male characters get treated like the scum of the Earth for the slightest of transgressions, female characters (plus Drayton I guess) get to be outright assholes and the audience is somehow gaslit into thinking they're good because muhwaifu) that I have to believe. At least Arven's treated mostly fine in his part of the plot I guess (that's basically the one thing I've seen, lol), but I guess that's just because there was literally no one else there to fuck things up; I knew Penny decided to be an asshole while Arven and Nemona were airing their actual problems during the finale; when else does Arven get shat on? I want to see it so I can get mad and add it to my autistic record file on how GF's writers room needs to be purged with fire.
In SM Gladion does get respect from his sister but he was always kind of an outsider, and his butting heads with Hau was nice. SwSh does have Hop with a rough arc, but it's an arc I honestly like as he surpasses his brother by getting the other Box legend. Bede getting his own little humbling arc is off, but they clearly wanted one jerk rival there. I will say Peony deserves better daughters though.
I still say SM plot is just the peak of fucked up in general.

Actually playing as Lillie or Gladion in the games depending on gender would have been neat. It would have also given a reason for the player character never being seen again in the future games. They were literslly in a different region trying to fix the mother of all family issues.
