Pokémon (Not-So) Griefing Thread - Scarlet and Violet Released with 10 Million Copies in First 3 Days in Buggy States

In the pocketmons world, Hex Maniac (オカルトマニア, occult mania) could be some "subculture" with a certain look they somehow got a consensus on, sorta like goth or emo IRL.

And for some reason, such a "subculture" would be rather popular in Not Kyūshū Hoenn and Not France Kalos.

Reminds me of the Aero design. Has Pokémon gone through all 4 of these designs?

I think they've done everything but flat design. When I think about it, I feel like the gens correlate pretty linearly, too. G1 is clunky, but charming, and still experimenting with shapes and ideas. The's a lot of pastel in the color palettes of pokemon, probably because of sugimori's watercolors. G2 isn't quite y2K, but some of the designs are: Porygon 2, eapeon, skarmory. G3 is definitely fruiter aero, with the themes of a cleaner, brighter future. The Lati twins, Gardevoir line, milotic, Manectric...

I mean, ghosts are real and so are actual psychics. You would expect various different subcultures to arise accordingly.
I think the subculture of Orre fascinates me the most. Judging by the player classes and how rough the region is, it's clear that your average trainer there is a tough dude. You got "Chasers" which are supposed to be bikers, "Hunters" which do not make it clear if they hunt people or Pokemon, you got "Riders" which look like cowboys, and "Bodybuilders" replace Black Belts. Actual trainers are rare and inbetween, so outside of gang members these are the trainers you fight most often. Considering that kidnapping women in a burlap sack in broad daylight is just an everyday occurrence there, I like to think Orre is something of a mix of Mad Max and Final Fantasy 7, when you consider the weird technology and the caliber of bad guys you're dealing with. There is even a bit of Fallout mixed in, perhaps that's unavoidable considering the setting. There is a bunker in the middle of the desert and in Gale of Darkness, powered armored goons hang around it all day. Hard not to think of the Lost Hills bunker from Fallout 1, especially since Orre is based around West Coast as well.

There is real "magic" such as ESP in that world, and yet Helena (that Hex Maniac in that one mobile game) claims there is some organization trying to cover up supernatural.
>glowies canonically exist in the Pokémonverse
Wouldn't be a stretch, we've already had (((NGOs))) (Aether Foundation, Team Galactic, Plasma) & (((billionaires))) (Lysandre, Chairman Rose) as villains. "X-Files"–style feds being the evil team for Gen 10 could unironically be kino.

Speaking of Orre, don't forget that we know that Cipher(and likely Team Plasma) infiltrated their local government. If they can do it, this can't just be an isolated incident.
It's a miracle that the world isn't already destroyed from the retarded gay ops these groups run, when you consider that there is literal gods in play and that the only reason those plans are foiled is because a 10 year old is in the right place at the right time.

I have some unfortunate news for you

Yes, kind of. It's hard to argue that gens 1 and 2 had any kind of visual design given their limitations, but once those were lifted the series quickly took to trends.

Ruby/Sapphire most definitely tried to market themselves on Y2K visuals, DiaPer have that shitty Windows XP Megablox look to them with their prominent buttons and bright pastel palette, Black and White's got that dated, glossy look all over it (no matter how much it tries to look futuristic, just look at that bottom bar!), XY have EVEN MORE gloss, and the aforementioned Sword/Shield and Scarlet/Violet took any excuse to be lazy and didn't even try to make their UI look distinct.

I brought up Ruby/Sapphire earlier, but I'll admit it's actually something of an exception to this. It's pretty pastel and easygoing during a time when EVERYTHING IS DARK AND EDGY. Had some of the beta designs gone through less changes I'm sure that wouldn't be the case, but RSE as it is now stands out as a really lighthearted example of early 2000s UI during a time when being dark and gritty was all the rage.

Similar exceptions can be made for all of Gen 7 (because Gamefreak still cared enough about UI design back then to take an arguably maximalist approach during the absolute peak of bland black and white modernism).

Alright, is this new pocket TCG actually a legit fun little version of it or is it just the usual endless/vacuous gacha wank?
There's SOME fun to be had, but it runs out of steam pretty quickly.

For me, I'm having more fun building new decks and trying them out than anything else. I got 3 original decks built. One of them is a W.I.P. because I'm missing two important cards but I'm still getting by. The other 2 are complete and good to go. Only one of the decks I've built is using an EX card.

I've been trying to see how far i can get with just plain regular cards, and so far it's do-able, but you still get raped by certain pre-built decks, specifically the Dragonite one and MewTwo one (the latter of which I can't fucking stand because it's EVERYWHERE in vs)

You're right, and I agree, but I was focusing on the Pokemon themselves.

I miss the dual screen UI. It worked so much better than the single screen tech these days...

In that case I'd say no but idk about others. Pokémon's always done its own thing in the monster design department (ironically, that very thing is creative plagiarism of nature, but not of aesthetic trends, hidden behind stylization). The only thing I can kind of think of in terms of Pokémon design is Porygon's line, which goes from a shitty 90s polygon to a 2000s blobbygon and then every modern AAA game of today with Z

I miss dual screens in general. Gaming peaked with the DS family and has yet to recover. Praying that the Switch 2 clamshell rumors that have been floating around for years are true.

I thought the gameboy advance SP was great. Easy to carry around, and you didn't have to worry about the screen getting fucked up like the original gameboys.

The SP was the perfect size, was durable enough, and most importantly had the revolutionary backlit screen so I didn't need a shitty peripheral light that plugged into my gameboy to play at night under my covers or during night time car rides.

Don't forget the rechargeable battery, you ended up saving money due to not constantly buying AAs and getting scolded for taking said AAs out of the TV remote. The only complaint I have for the SP is the loss of the headphone jack, that required an additional dongle that used the charge port.

Oh, and if you want to get technical only the AGS-101 model SPs had a true backlit screen (and more vibrant colors). Earlier models had a frontlit screen and were more muted color-wise.
