They're not normalfags if they autistically buy every single game regardless of quality
That's the definition of a normalfag, buying the same game over and over no matter what. In this case, it's so they can pog at Pikachu for 2 hours(reason why they hated Gen 5 was because there was no Pikachu), get bored and never even finish the game, only to repeat the process when the new game gets released. Most people who buy the games don't finish the Elite Four, so you're automatically a "hardcore player" if you ever did. The gamebros who buy COD and sportsball every year aren't as pathetic, since at least they actually play these games over and over for an entire year.
And most of the positive reception I saw came from Youtube, Gamefaqs, forums like Serebii and Bulbapedia, and smaller sites I can't even remember the names of.
Serebii is a shill site and Bulbapedo is full of drones. Youtube is full of retards/normalfags and Gamefaqs is Gamefaqs. So yeah, mostly normalfags no better than redditors.
The difference is that we still enjoyed the games back then, even when we pointed out flaws. Even gens that weren't all that great in hindsight like 6 and 7 were mostly well received and liked, but after SwSh fans finally realized that the biggest flaws with the Switch games could be traced back to the 3DS era. We could tolerate a lack of a postgame, but a lack of a postgame AND not having half of all Pokemon with no way to transfer them? Not so tolerable.
Gen 6 and 7 were absolutely lackluster and I complained about them since day one. The only thing that saved them were the interesting gameplay mechanics(Megas, Z Crystals), the competitive side and in Gen 7's case, the unique environment and UBs. Everything else was garbage. There were many common complaints for both gens that people took problem with before and after Dexit, so like I said this is mostly you keeping your rose tinted shades on and pretending everybody loved this slop for almost 10 years blindly which is absolutely not the case. Even if the flaws were only made more apparent thanks to SwSh(and Let's Go to an extent), people who did play Gens 6 and 7 mostly played it in spite of their shortcomings, not because they thought they were actually good. Gen 6 and 7 fans were rare(many of them underage and only liked it because it was their first game) and today, it's only a good line opener if you're a troll with bad bait if you claim to be one.
BTW, you want to know why everybody tolerated these games and claimed to "enjoy" them, no matter how shitty they were? Simple, it was already mentioned, because all the Pokemon were there. Let's Go would also be received mostly positively if every Pokemon from Gen 7 was there, but it wasn't so people ate it alive. Gen 8 was only when this was made mainstream, hence the noticing from casuals and comparisons made to previous gens. This all happened years before SwSh btw, let's not pretend this is an overnight phenomenon rather than people reaching their boiling point.
Full compatibility between all gens is all that Pokemon had going for it, the only redeeming factor, and the studio was actually greedy and stupid enough to can it and save a few shekels since they knew their retarded, spineless fanbase would buy it anyways. You mentioned a lack of postgame, well guess what was the postgame for most people? Competitive, starting with online battles, online competitions and Battle Tree. Take away most Pokemon and moves and the competitive scene is boring, to the point where SwSh competitive history is divided between it's DLC seasons. Gen 9 doesn't even have a Battle Tower clone as if to make things worse.
Oh BTW, another factor that people don't seem to mention is that people were also angry that you had to pay money to access online features, especially when it was clear that the game would be online centric thanks to raids and what not. That on top of a HOME subscription and having to pay for a new console, new game AND Dexit on top of that? Yeah, it's definitely more nuanced than simply "lack of a post game".
