Pokémon (Not-So) Griefing Thread - Scarlet and Violet Released with 10 Million Copies in First 3 Days in Buggy States

I would agree if it weren't blatantly obvious Nintendo is targeting the nostalgia of older demographics as much as new audiences (that they're honestly losing - more kids care about Minecraft than Pokemon) and that many of these people never stopped playing to begin with. Like, sure, people get older, tastes change, they become more discerning, they get rose-tinted glasses, but on the other the people who never put down Pokemon since the aughts probably have a good reference point to say that the series they have an unhealthy obsession with has demonstrably declined (and declined in part because they refuse to give it up).
You know what, I failed to consider that last part when I made my post because I’ve accepted that it’s fine to put down a series and say “this installment isn’t for me”. I failed to account for the Pokemon adults who still buy plushies and don’t hide their power levels.

They can’t accept that they’re not the target demographic anymore.

A little autistic tangent: everytime I hear “target demographic” and “Pokemon” in the same sentence I just laugh to myself and ask “does anybody know who the hell are target audiences anymore?” I doubt even Nintendo doesn’t know the answer.
Most children around me playing / watching some freemium shit on their tablets. Teens acting tough and play real men games like CoD or whatever popular shooter games and usually they look at Pokemon down the fucking nose - based - . Worst of all, for those little ones who love pokemon they are basically shit out of luck because here comes hundreds of soywalkers running through the store buying out everything imaginable and leave them with nothing.

I can imagine Nintendo / TPC / GF standing looking at this shitshow: this was supposed to be a family friendly franchise but our database indicates that around 50% of the fanbase are adults in their mid 40s - I know that article was for Japan exclusively, but I bet big money same thing happened for the rest if not worse -, but we can’t step in because those soywalkers are paying us good money.

Kinda funny with all that said they still insist in making their games 100% safe and never considered evolving some aspect for the adult audience like what Digimon did. Can you imagine if they took a page from Digimon Survive and started killing off people just because you chose the wrong path? People like Joe Merrick would’ve cried his ass off.. sadly they don’t have the balls to do such thing.

Great post regardless, the situation with this God damn franchise and the fanbase is just bizarre.

I would say so that they're selling well because of Japanese really like story driven narratives and the Pokemon since there's like a ton of fan art of both across the generations on the switch.

Infamously, during the 3DS days no Pokemon game could touch generation four or five which led to some sales analyst thinking that the series was declining sales wise since they would only peek at like 3 million as opposed to like the 5 million black and white got or the nearly 7 million DPP had.

There is an obsession with scarlet and violet over there.

I think a part of the two is that ever since the 2010s without awful things have gotten, people have begin to sort of retreat into established media for escapism and Pokemon is incredibly good about that.

There are people who have never seen anime that will sink hours into it now just to feel like they're a part of something or do not have to think about what's outside.

I like sun and moon but knowing what it was supposed to be makes it nearly as good as Pokemon X and Y in terms of cut content.

The original pitch for the game sounds like it would have been one of the best Pokemon games of all time
It's been forever since I read about cut content and leaks about older gens, what was the original pitch?

SM was originally going to be open world. It had its own form of the past paradox Pokemon through these weird fossils where you could find ancestral Pokemon like a wingless Salamence acestor, there were over 200 side quests and even more that would have been added through dlc, the team Rainbow Rocket stuff would have been a part of the post game, there was a gigantic battle Cruise that was planned that was going to be similar to the Pokemon world tournament where it would have docked in specific all over the other six regions and you would fight various trainers from there.

Z moves originally had a lot more complexity where depending on how you utilize them it would affect what the battlefield
-the water ones would set up heavy storms
- the electric ones would set up electric terrain that would specifically affect electric types

There was this post game idea of Zygarde battling it out with the ultra beast that would have ended with him fighting Guzzlord

There was this weird idea called mini Pokemon that effectively acted like opowers from generation 6 .

I assume this came from teraleak. Do you know which documents this was confirmed from? I remember the cruise and Team Rocket being part of the game but not much else.

Also, fun fact, there is an unused water field environment in the final game, similar to the 4 elemental ones that Tapus summon, so this is likely a remnant of that idea.

Someone at Nintendo/GF/TPC (not sure which) must resent the manchild demographic as there have been some pretty aggressive attempts to make the franchise more kid friendly, like introducing moves such as "Splishy Splash" and "Baddy Bad" in the Let's Go games or releasing shlock like Friends and Smile.

Yeah, I could see why this didn't make it into the games. They must've cut that back once they realized they wouldn't be able to get it done, especially on the 3DS.

I temporarily forgot what Totodile's first evolution is. Then later, as I was reaching to turn on the display for that N64 with Stadium 2 to find out, I suddenly remembered.

What a forgettable pocketmon Croconaw is. 🤔
I find Croconaw very memorable. I remember looking at that belly/chest pattern and thinking Croconaw looked like it came out of an episode of the Flinstones since it was visually similar to the style of that cartoons clothing. The only thing Croconaw is missing to complete that cavecroc look is a large club.

I meant which document and which folder within the teraleaks was this information contained in. You can easily check this information for yourself if you have the files, and then we know the information is actually true. Plenty of people made things up during the teraleaks so you always ask where the information came from for proof.

I will give this channel a go, it seems to have several more interesting videos than just these two.

So, in lieu of my last post, I bit the bullet and got Let's Go Pikachu. I enjoyed it a lot, although it was a bit short. Leveling up by catching Pokemon is pretty cool, and I was able to beat the Elite Four in no time, along with transferring my winning team over to Brilliant Diamond, which definitely has a harder Elite Four to beat.

Overall, Let's Go Pikachu was pretty enjoyable, along with revisiting Kanto again.

IMO the caveman theme just makes it look ugly, good thing it loses it when it evolves.

BDSP still has the original Diamond/Pearl elite four if I recall correctly, along with no real fire types for the fire trainer. I think the only difference here is that enemy Pokemon have competitive items, but that is rendered null due to every single one of your Pokemon being artificially stronger due to the friendship mechanic from Sun and Moon being carried over, meaning that the more you use your Pokemon the more bonuses you get just by raising it's friendship(for example, being able to survive a hit that would KO or increasing critical chance).

Let's Go is a waste of time, unless you're really into the Pokemon GO mechanics. Why you wouldn't just replay Yellow or even play a romhack that properly ports Yellow into Gen 3 is beyond me, especially when the game is meant for little kids and casuals(even more so than the mainline games). The only saving grace is being able to use Alolan variants, which would be interesting if the game wasn't so easy.

People always seethe about objectmons like the key chain one even doe Voltorb and Electrode look like fucking shit compared to the newer objectmons, Also I love Cofagrigus and Sharpedo during the gen 5 games because their names would avoid the word filters so you could name your Pokémon fag or pedo or pedo fag, but the word filter would stop you from calling your Pokémon Faggot or pedophile or fuck or poo and so and so forth. I was still a child when I had this game, so I remember I was traded a Pokémon with the name fag.
I've brought this up before, but Voltorb and Electrode deserve a pass because they are a very clever twist on the classic RPG mimic even if they're underutilized. They can be encountered via overworld sprite and look identical to the sprite for items, their high base speed makes it possible they'll go first and use Self Destruct or Explosion before you can do anything.

And of course their Black & White successor would be Foongus & Amoongus which fill the same niche, but are more common in forest areas instead of electric themed dungeons swapping speed and boom for shitty slow Effect Spore/Stun Spore and heal stall moves which seems less fun to me even though I'm a big Black & White fan.

Looks like I'm the only one who sees it that way (lol).

They're the Mimic of pocketmons...

Black and White sucked because it was the most JRPG shit ever rather than “Child wanders into a mafia/ eco-terrorist/ a Japanese science cult” fucking Cyrus is better than whatever fuck N (short for nigger because he is an annoying Nigger) was and he’s JRPG to a T. Most of the designs were awful and felt like left over concept art from Gens 2-4. Volcana, Joltik, Cryogonal, and Hydrogeion are the only designs that aren’t uninspired or just shit.

Hoenn did a better job of showing you enough new with the old. Kalos just felt like they half assed and rehashed shit. Bouffalant and the shitty British designed shit.

Wot if we did Ponyta, but electric, mate? Wot if we did worse Machop? Wot if we did a lazy Hitmonlee and Hotmonchan that look like Sesame Street characters? It doesn’t feel like a homage, it felt like being the Diet Pepsi to the Coke of Gen 1. Too similar to really be its own, but disappointing because not what anyone wanted. It basically just was them taking ever they learned from Hoenn and Sinnoh and spiting it in order to try to appeal to Gen 1 and appealing to no one.

The Swords of Justice also suck.

@Catgirl Tyranid put that into your pipe and smoke it

Oh yeah, and Feraligatr sorta reminds me of a Sakkra from the Master of Orion series (especially MoO2).

(The Sakkra are an alien species of sapient lizards who reproduce fast and can be rather expansionist.)

Thank you for fully demonstrating in real time what everyone has been discussing for the past several pages about no one having the same criteria for what constitutes a good Pokemon game while simultaneously caring too much about said criteria.

I liked Black & White dude, it has good sprites, an entirely new pokedex was great for a blind playthrough, and I enjoyed turning down Zekrom to utterly crush N for being a retard without the help of a Legendary.

It's okay if you wanted more out of it or preferred other gen games. Emerald would be my favorite if not for the slog that is the water routes in the late game.

This right here is why we're relegated to kanto slop and no innovation for the foreseeable future

It really isn't that bad. If you have something that can deal with Tentacool and something that can deal with Wingull then you're all set, nothing else will really surprise you. The section does drag on, but that's what repel is for if you can't be bothered. I don't know why people complain about this and not, say, Mt. Coronet, which I think is a much worse slog towards the end.
