Pokémon (Not-So) Griefing Thread - Scarlet and Violet Released with 10 Million Copies in First 3 Days in Buggy States

Kinda figured that. You can say alot about GF, but I really doubt they have it in them to just pull a stunt similar to Bethesda like that.
YES!

I was waiting for someone to say that!

... Yes, I'm that immature.

Although, to be mature again - At least GF hasn't pulled a Bethesda and shipped games that barely function and rely on the fans to fix the problems.
I'm sure I'll get someone fighting me on how it's only a matter of time though.

Yeah, just ignore gigantamax.
There are 48 Megas and roughly 20 gigas. If we are taking GFs word that model rigging and textures for old models was the cause of the cuts and content issues, this makes perfect sense. Less things overall to animate and you can call it a new feature.

At least Gamefreak themselves will probably cut them next gen anyway.

Yeah it feels fucking weird, Masuda gives 20 different answers to questions and near the end when he talks about the Dex like he's Todd Howard. Near the end they say something like "we'll see when the reaction to sword and shield after it release is known" after months saying its policy this moment forward. It fells like their is company politics that game to a head in gen 8 that outsiders can't really see.
IIRC Game Freak said something along those lines regarding LGPE when they were being hyped, specifically saying that they plan on alternating between mainline titles like XY and LGPE, and then backtracked on it when the more casual entry did terribly in Japan in terms of sales and reception. Seeing as how the leaks have reached Japan and the fans there are taking it as badly (if not more so due to the Dex cut not being explicitly mentioned outside of a sole Famitsu interview and never brought up outside of social media until the leaks showed HOW badly the Dex was cut) it’s not that surprising to see them backtrack on this.

I'm not particularly worried. They have already shown off that they care capable at making "perfect" pokemon game. They did is with black 2 and white 2. If they followed what they did with that and applied all the god like kino features they have shown in the game so far, everyone is happy.

I am actually glad this has happened. With this shit show going like how it is, maybe theyll open there eyes to the SINGULAR issue they have. You cant throw a handheld budget at a console rpg anymore. If they had given them a proper budget there would be no issue. They are too used to spending nothing and getting everything. Hopefully this will break them.

Town can't get patched by fans but it certainly fills the whole "Barely functioning" part of the statement
Not to mention Giga breaker or whatever couldn't work on steam due to a missnamed EXE file

Okay that's reassuring then, once again Japan saves a series from stagnation

As long as it gets expanded as much as BW2 did to unova and not ULTRA CHANGES
Obviously like how KANTOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO mons were shoved into unova's dex I expect the nat dex to be added into a hypothetical gen 8-2 but I hope they make the map better because so far it looks kinda alola tier barren and very bare bones so hopefully like how Black and White 2 added areas outside of Unovas mainland to begin we get something like that.

Looking at the map doesnt really tell you much because b2w2's was a literal upsidedown Q. We really have to see when the game comes out. Nat dex not withstanding if sword and shield is par with normal black and white content wise then that would be a good outlook.

The Japan finding out factor is undoubtedly what's hitting the hardest. Not only is it home turf, but it cannot be understated how little most of them over there knew about this. The rest of us have had months to mull over the implications of dex cuts, and while the leaks heightened tensions considerably due to the sheer severity of it, we still had that long amount of time to digest the potential gravity of the situation beforehand. The Japanese, however, will have barely over a week. So the sting of the news and the realization of how GF effectively kept them in the dark all along will be extremely fresh in their minds come D-day. It's the horror scenario GF's been dreading.

So, anyone get to keep/lose any life long friends along the way?

I always liked Bulbasaur the most but some how Nightsky my Charizard has stuck around the longest, along with my Vaporeon, Sly, that I've had since Fire Red/Leaf Green.

I really can't remember my past teams, but Nightsky and Sly along with two Blastoise's and a Mewtwo got me through White Tree Hollow and Black Tower because their levels were so high. Sly and Nightsky are still in white, I have to move them up. I can't find one of the Blastoise's (IIRC her name was Shelly) or the Mewtwo but I know they're around somewhere. It kind of sucks they won't be able to tag along, even though I haven't used them in ages. I also found my old Rayquaza from Emerald that I'd named Diamond, has an empty attack slot so I'm certain I taught him an HM, he's in the bank.

I always make a point of saving all the teams ive used if i can. Theyll be in home so its not like ive lost them.

my og platinum team was wiped when I put my soul silver in my pants as a 11 year old, they went throught the wash, slowly fucking the save. Its why I put my games neatly to this day and also why I get protective of my team. Kinda why I don't trust this pokemon Home/bank shit since its all out of my control for storage since the cloud could fuck itself over at any time
Luckly I saved my first shiny, a rapadash, in my platinum game due to losing that for abit.
as for "leaving anyone behind", I wont be transfering anyone foward for now my reasoning being the following
when I buy a second switch I'll play Gen8 if I'm bored between modding in emulators and using a browser if one is available. if they would release one with the national dex that would be my last since I always intended the switch to be my drop off point for the series.

I’m relieved Malamar made the cut. I said earlier in the thread that in Ultra Moon it held its own against Ultra Necrozma and pretty much defeated it single handedly. I’ll also never forget it one-shotting Giovanni’s MewTwo Y. I still remember thinking “Oh shit, here we go” when it was brought out and then “Oh wait, it’s over?” the next second. It was a bit like that scene where he just shoots the swordsman in Indiana Jones.

Boy do I have a powerlevelly story for you guys.

Soooooo tell me, kiwis - have you ever found a shiny legendary as a kid?

See, it's one thing to encounter a shiny as a kid - it's a great feeling, but I assure you nothing is more overwhelming to a 12 year old kid than finding a shiny legendary. It is a feeling that you'll most likely never forget - one of amazement at finding something incredibly rare, but also one of great fear because of how hard legendaries in older games were to catch. Chromium was no different.

I was trying to catch Registeel in Emerald on the morning I encountered Chromium. It didn't take me very long to realise what was going on after resetting the game after my last attempt resulted in the Registeel committing seppuku - Registeel's colours in 3rd gen are kind of subtle, but not unnoticeable. My jaw dropped when I saw the blueish-green golem slide across my screen, followed by the sparkle animation. I freaked out right there and then - I'd already used my Master Ball on Rayquaza like a noob so all I could rely on was the catch rate being generous enough to let me claim my prize. A Timer Ball ended the fight - and I mashed the save button as fast as I could before the batteries in my GBA died. I named him Chromium after my favourite metal in the periodic table and to me Chromium was the best thing ever.

Fast forward to when Diamond and Pearl come out - I wanted to start over on Emerald for old time's sake and decided to transfer Chromium and a few other shinies to Diamond so I could keep them safe. Chromium became a driving force during the Battle Island areas of the game. He was a force to be reckoned with and I planned to bring him to 5th gen when the time came. But as it goes in life, this was never to happen. I made the mistake of bringing my copy of Diamond to a high school that was a shithole one day - you can imagine what happened. Some kid stole my copy of the game and I never saw it again. It broke my heart to lose my squad but losing Chromium made me hurt most of all. My closest partner was gone - and knowing people in general, I wouldn't be surprised if that kid erased the file he was on at some point.

But that isn't where the story ends.

Last July I finally decided it was time to return to 3rd gen games and do a legendary shiny hunt. No prizes for guessing which legendary I chose. About three days in I noticed one of the Registeels coming across the screen is a little greener than usual. I'd come prepared - I tossed the Master Ball without hesitation and the job was done and dusted in seconds. I felt like that 12 year old kid again for a moment - but this time more elated to know that I'd gotten to see an old friend again, even if his nature and stats were different.

You fucking bet I named him Chromium.

TL;DR: I caught a shiny Registeel when I was 12, named him Chromium, and he became my favourite partner. Then some kid stole the copy of Diamond I'd transferred him to, then earlier this year I caught another shiny Registeel and also named it Chromium. The End. I will stop sperging now.

I know I've bitched and moaned about it before, but some loser vaguely related to me had a party at MY house when I was in high school and his little shit stole 90% of my pokemon games. Dumped my case on the ground and pocketed them when helping me pick them up. Got most of them (minus emerald) back. There's an entire circle in hell dedicated to people who steal other people's pokemon games. The grandma of the kid, who's idea it was my mom had to host the party to begin with, was forced by my mom to reimburse me because the parents of the little bitch had zero interest in doing so. She got a copy, said it was new, I told her it wasn't as it was an old game and there was a file on it, she got mad that she had to shell out $40 for a used game, still didn't realize why we were pissed that most of my games from FR/LG to SS/HG went missing.

I swear man.

I have my Gallade that I've had since Soul Silver. Guy's been champion of five regions, a movie star, a contest champ, and finally got to shine with a Mega and max IVs. He's my favorite bunch of code attached to a model and 5 animations.

So, anyone get to keep/lose any life long friends along the way?
Growing up, none of my friends were into Pokemon. That meant I had no access to trade evolutions. Gengar existed only in my dreams and Scizor was never gonna happen. So when I first played through FireRed I decided to give Drowzee a try because I knew I wouldn't be able to get Alakazam but I still really wanted a Psychic type.

I named her Ellie. She wasn't as strong as something like Kadabra, and I fucking hated that. This was back when all I cared about offensive ability, when the concept of tanking was non-existent to me and every move had to be damage-dealing. But the more I used Ellie, the more I kinda liked watching my foes struggle to KO this beefy half-elephant in between getting put to sleep with Hypnosis. Then she evolved into Hypno, wiped the floor with Koga, got Calm Mind after Sabrina, gave Blaine the bird as his Fire attacks struggled to put a dent in her, and saved my ass in the final battle against my rival.

Reflect to boost defense. Hypnosis until the opponent fell asleep. Calm Mind to boost special attack and defense. Dream Eater to deal damage and regain health. It was so fun. So unlike all my other Pokemon experiences, which were just spam the highest power attacking move until I won.

Ellie had gone from this "last one picked for dodgeball" Pokemon I only kept around because I couldn't get something better, to my favorite team member. I even liked her more than my Venusaur. When they announced Diamond and Pearl I was so excited to bring her into the new games and keep playing with her in a new world, on a new system, and unleash her trollish, tanky tactics onto a new generation.

And then my mom accidentally included my FireRed cartridge in some old games I wanted to sell at a garage sale.

Godspeed Ellie, whenever you are. You opened up my idiot child mind to different play styles.

That #ThankYouGameFreak reminds me of when Twitter and Tumblr had crybabies going "Thank you, President Obama" up until after Trump's inauguration, except Game Freak at least has a legacy to leave behind and maybe deserves some credit/thanks for many people's childhoods/inspirations.

I'd have to think back to my Pokemon stories, but Azumarill has always been an important MVP of many of my teams ever since Silver, which is weird because you get Marill quite a bit late into the game, but luckily G/S/C has an amazing post-game, so I was able to have it on my team to the end and beyond. Azumarill was always my strongest Pokemon (somehow, I know), and it was the first Pokemon I ever raised properly to level 100. Like yeah, I fell in love with the line ever since Marill was first released to the (American) public, back before I could ever properly pronounce it because the TV guide that had the puzzle cut-out back in 1999 didn't give us a pronunciation guide lol. But being able to have a Marill and soon an Azumarill on my team was different from seeing it in the anime, and no matter what, I always needed her (had to be female) on my team.

Each Azumarill was different, of course, and it seems to me like Azumarill got a boost with every generation or something, because she always got stronger with every incarnation. Maybe I just got better, I don't know, but she followed me throughout my journeys whenever possible. I was looking forward to seeing her on the Switch, on my TV, but guess that was just never meant to be. (:_(

I carried my starter Espeon and Umbreon from Colosseum to the furthest end of the line that they could go which I can't remember but I think it was Diamond. Keeping their shitty weeb names all the way to the end.

I also lost my Alpha Sapphire game which had a shiny Sylveon I busted my ass getting. I got another one in Sun and named him after the lost one, Foxtrot.

I wish I had the stories to share, but the Pokedex got cut in the 3rd and 5th generations.

I got out pretty good, I still got my Bisharp from Gen 5-7, got my Tyranitar, Frosslass, Roserade, Weavile, Flygon and Manetric.

The only ones who I'm leaving in USUM is my Serperior, Houndoom and Starmie. I got relatively unscathed by this.

Seriously, Starmie was one of my favorite water pokemon for a while - It had some really good coverage, like thunderbolt, psychic, ice beam - I could practically tank the entire Elite four with my Starmie. It was so amazing.

Yeah, it's sad I won't be able to use the psychic star fish, but then again, I always made it a point trying to find a Staryu asap in any game so I could raise it.
