Pokémon (Not-So) Griefing Thread - Scarlet and Violet Released with 10 Million Copies in First 3 Days in Buggy States

Guzma is best villain because he's not bent on world domination or genocide or restarting the universe or any of that small dick syndrome shit. He's just a punkass shithead ruling over a bunch of other punkass shitheads. Also he managed to take over a city. A walled city. Dude won a fucking siege with nothing but dumb wiggers and unevolved Pokemon.

Text dump from the menus. Of note are the strings ‘exp share on’ and ‘exp share off’, so there’s hope. Maybe the option is just hidden stupidly like the sound options are.

E: also ‘Which Pokémon do you want to fuse this Pokémon with?’ Was this a usum thing or is it something new?
E: are you fucking kidding me? There’s a separate set of strings for every single move.

I wouldn’t get too excited, there is a ton of stuff from as far back as heartgold and soul silver in there. The GB player and exp share equip item are still in for instance. Gamefreak just leaves a bunch of shit from older games in their new games each time.

I remember back then when Pokemon Let's Go Pikachu/Eevee was first announced, and many people were trying to deflect any kind of criticism by saying stuff like "Gen 8 its on the way! it will be a Pokemon game for the veteran fans, don't criticize LGPE for being for a different audience!", i think nobody expected gen 8 to be an even bigger shitshow than Let's Go! ever was

What baffles me more is that somehow LGPE looks better than SwSh. I never thought I would say that, but fuck here we are.

I'll fully admit to being one of those people. I didn't buy LG and thought it was stupid with the obvious Kanto/Go player pandering. But it didn't bother me too much as I kept telling myself, "This just means that the main series can go back to its roots and be like the classic days! The LG series can satisfy the ultra casuals while giving us veterans what we've been wanting, it'll be great! Plus LG is buying them extra time so they can make sure gen 8 is in the best quality it can be!"

My poor, poor naive past self. He had no idea what lied ahead...

Kinda funny how a "spin-off" like Let's Go! ended up having far fewer issues than the supposed "big love letter to the fans and first main-line entry on a home console" game

At least you know better now, never trust a company when they go full damage control

I was in the same boat. I rationalized LGPE as Game Freak's opportunity to get past some of the growing pains of moving from handheld to console and learn how to make something for the Switch. Yes, yet another bout of Kanto pandering was obnoxious but surely not having to create an entire new region, new characters, new plot, and new Pokemon would free them up to focus on programming and learning the ropes. It was the sacrifice necessary to make Sword and Shield the best they could possibly be. And if it got GO players into the core games, then I'd have more people at work to sperg out with.

I miss having hope like that.

Well at least we can agree on the villian team leader ratings

Cyrus> Ghetsis>Guzma>giovanni>maxie=archie>lusamine>lysandre>whatever that tip shit rocket guy from gen 2 is called.

I know I know, I'm going to sound like a contrarian ass, I know. But I don't like rating villains on what they do in the story, rather I rate them as characters and in that regard Cyrus and Lysandre can suck a nut. They're boring ass mother-fuckers in the games they're in and don't have any gravitas at all save for their take over the world plots which, to me at least, provide the worst stories in the franchise.

Giovanni, Maxie, and Archie are about equal levels of stupid but charming. Giovanni's got a bad-ass flare to him even if he's technically a wimp and he carries himself well even nowadays. Maxie and Archie are the opposite of that; they're really stupid but somehow that makes them all the more endearing.

I have exceptionally high regard for Lusamine and Ghetsis. They're fantastic villains and wonderfully fucked-up. I have to put Lusamine lower because USUM botched her entire story-arc, but she was hardcore uncomfortable in the original Sun and Moon, and I give Game Freak mad props for going with that. Ghetsis, however, is such a fucking twistedly manic villain that I can't even believe he's in the Pokemon franchise at all. He has Final Fantasy levels of mania and wrath and you don't just get told that throughout Gen 5, you see it on multiple occasions. That encounter in N's castle in OG Black and White is so cringe in all the right ways. I can just picture him twisting and contorting as he uncomfortably tries to keep the facade of his plans from falling apart right in front of you, almost like he's arguing with himself.

Guzma, however, is on another level entirely. He's Giovanni perfected; Not some overlord trying to bring ruin with super-powered animals nor is he some deluded virtuoso hiding an obvious ulterior motive. Guzma is a thug with tons of merit as a trainer who commands the respect of his peers and even someone like Lusamine through sheer grit alone. He's a brute who actually feels like he can throw his weight around and even though he never has grandiose plans that can tell a story he feels like a genuine bad guy that would exist in a world like Pokemon. That he's also ridiculously charming and funny is a major plus.

And I don't think it needs to be said that fuck whoever the villains of Gen 2 were, for how worthless they are.

So, the game loves to force local wireless on (That Y button in the corner for a lot of screenshots? That's that.) Turns out if you have the console in airplane mode and dock it with a wired internet USB, the game freaks out and stutters every 6 seconds until you disable airplane mode.

Then it forces itself into local, and disables that USB adapter of yours.

Welp, someone posted this on Discord.

I remember arguing (tooth and nail) with those kind of people talking about how I didn't want Pokemon to start going the way CoD did, slow slope into mediocrity, and now we're here. I guess the fanbase will have to learn a harsh lesson from this in the future. (They won't but I can dream.)

Just watched the ending battles and final villain battle. Would’ve been pretty cool if it wasn’t laughably easy.

People are starting to realize some of the stuff that's been brought up in this thread already (400 pokemon being cut, same rooms being reused, etc.). I am just here for the shitshow that is about to happen honestly. Nintendo is apparently holding review copies from reviewers "because of the leaks". This is going to be fun to watch

Pokemon fans have been buying the same copypasted games for over a decade and it took THIS for them to finally grow some common sense and stop buying it?
FIFA, madden, 2K, etc have been selling millions every year and those games are literally copy paste. Turns out it’s really easy to please most people.

Not to mention that IIRC, there aren't that many major competitors in this genre, compared to say, FPS games. The Sims is also in a similar state, in that the lack of competition allows EA to freely Charge For Everything.
