Pokémon (Not-So) Griefing Thread - Scarlet and Violet Released with 10 Million Copies in First 3 Days in Buggy States

Part of me does wish that they did a little more with that "power bond" mechanic. Hell, I wish they did more with mega evolution instead replacing it with all these different gimmicks.

Well Dynamax is basically a Fixed combination of Z-moves and Mega Evolution, the biggest issue with the two is that you give up your item slot and are basically locked into using one specific pokemon. Being able to just upgrade any member of your team at any time makes for a cool strategy game. Giving certain Pokemon Gigantimax is faggotry though.

Honestly either regileki or regeleki would’ve been fine but I just think regieleki sounds dumb because of the repeated vowel in the middle.
While I do agree with you, the conventions are a little weird here. Regice has always been spelled Regice, but pronounced Regi-ice. So there's sorta precedent either way?

That's the thing though, while I understand why Ithey used this gimmick (although, given that giganto-maxing exist I doubt that balancing was the reason). I feel like they could have easily used power bonding to circumvent that problem.

I mean I honestly don't care how they did it, getting rid of Mega-Evolutions (because they were always going to be boring as hell, you could literally tell the Mega-volver on a team just by the team) and you were basically hard locked into it. Revamping the system was needed, especially given that 90% of pokemon with Mega-Evolutions were straight garbage without it anyways. Combine that with the utter stupidity of The Primal Megas completely breaking that system to shit (Because did 3 of the strongest Ubers in the game REALLY fucking need a boost).

The Only way to make new pokemon competitive was to completely Outpower Primal Groudon/Kyogre who were already absurdly powerful.

*COUGH BEEDRILL COUGH*

Also Rotollo is a butthurt because I like the gameplay to being actually interesting as opposed to "Are you going to be a Rain team? Or a Sun Team" because that was the entirety of actual game play for gens 3-5. (no the single player campaign isn't the actual gameplay, it never has been because there hasn't been a generation you couldn't ROFLSTOMP with a starter)

I feel like XY had interesting ideas that were poorly executed.

Lumiose City is an idea that's good on paper, but giving it an annoying, 3rd person camera angle and giving it so many pointless cafes and shops really made it more tedious than it should have been.

There's also the unnecessary addition of most of your friends (especially Trevor and Tierno), along with Sky Battles, which lazily prevent Pokemon that aren't flying or levitating in their idle animation from participating (ie, Talonflame and Haunter can participate, but Fletchling and Gengar aren't allowed.)

One minor gripe I have about XY: It has probably the worst route in any Pokemon game, that being the desert route where hard to avoid Ground Pokemon that constantly stalk you. The rest of the game is a cakewalk, but that one area takes forever to get through. At least the snow levels in Sinnoh didn't have wild encounters stalking you.

The issue with bonds is instead of being a full mechanic they tied it to a ability, meaning it being a full mechanic is kinda already past the point of an idea were every pokemon can use it.

you know disagree isn't a neg rate right?

What were they thinking with skybattles anyway, was it just "We want to show off our flying animations we made for most flying type pokemon" right?

Oh i don't care if ratings are positive or negative, I couldn't care less about that gamification bullshit, but you deserved to be called out for rating every single post I made without putting out a counter point.

What IS the point of Gigantomaxing anyway? All that changes on a statistical level is one of the user's STABs gets a slightly different property than usual. No other difference compared to Dynamaxing (aka no other changes in stats, typing or ability), just a Totally Not Mega redesign. Feels like an utter waste of a gimmick beyond being an excuse for extra lines of merchandise honestly.

Pretty much the Exclusive attacks.

There are some that have differences that matter (G-max fireball vs Max Flare) and...the stupid Steel/Dragon thing's G-max move actually looks to be worse than a normal Max Dragon type attack (Attack Reduction vs draining 2 pp)

Don't know much for the mechanical reason but I think I can infer the design one. Game freak seems like they want to make sure that some of the designs this time around were complement by it instead of having a full evo line (see say, Alcremie for example). I also guess it's sort of a way to freshen up old designs as well as they tend to want to do, somewhat for merch and also to try to give galar it's own feel compared to other regions.

That's the best explanation that I've ever heard for it, honestly.

It's a shame, because sky battles could have been a really cool addition to the series, if they'd just put in the effort. A completely new meta where certain Pokémon and moves just flat out can't be used, but others become more useful or have different effects. Not only would it make battles more varied, it would give certain Pokémon more of a reason to exist.

Heck, you could even extend the concept to give abilities and items different effects, or have battle formats for different scenarios and environments. I remember hoping that Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire would introduce lava and water battles to complete the trifecta.

It sums up a lot of Game Freak's choices, doesn't it? Introduce a new mechanic that's rough around the edges but could become something really cool. Then, rather than expand upon or refine it, just completely scrap it, never mention it again and introduce a new, equally barebones mechanic in the next game.

It's just a shame that some mons in particular like Butterfree, who's been wanting the treatment Beedrill got for years, got stuck with the gimmick mechanic that didn't help it out competitively whatsoever.

it isn't like Mega-evolution helped Beedrill.

Mega-Bedrill has a stat pool shallower than most good non Megas (495, which is less than most 3rd stages of Starters) and Bug is a shit type to be honest. Butterfree's Typing is even more unfortunate. It is weak to..basically all the good offensive typings(with 4X weakness to Stealth Rock, which is almost a no-go on it's own) and..offense has been the name of the pokemon game since weather got nerfed.

UU is a far cry from untiered purgatory.

I heard it's explained that it's due to nintendo deleting streams after they are finished uploading to cut them out into chunks, so due to Presents and federation being the same video all the way through (fed being uploaded separately while presents was just a premiere of an upload) it was able to accrue dislikes quickly.
still funny as hell though that somehow happened

Tencent in the wake of the Wu Flu + Mobile-based Moba + people expecting much more of a core game for this second announcement + the fledgling optimism after the better IoA and the beautiful New Snap = perfect storm of bullshit.
