Pokémon (Not-So) Griefing Thread - Scarlet and Violet Released with 10 Million Copies in First 3 Days in Buggy States

So what was the thought process of Blaine in Pokémon Yellow deviating away from the anime team? The rest of the gym leaders pretty much have their anime team, but Blaine's the only one who's different, not even a Magmar (which pissed me off as a kid, I don't believe a single trainer even owned one in-game). Why is that, is it to trip up your Pikachu or what?

Yellow came out in Japan on September 12, 1998.

The episode of the anime that had Blaine in it originally aired August 13, 1998, only a little under a month beforehand.

Most likely the production of the game was completed before the episode aired, or was even possibly written due to how anime production works for some series(the episode not being finished until just before it airs)

This was also years before the Pokemon Company existed, which would have helped coordinate discussion between Game Freak, who made the original games, and Oriental Light and Magic, who made the anime adaption.

Does anyone have a spare bird fossil they’d be willing to trade for? I have three extra fossilized Fish and Drakes.
I’m having horrible luck with the digging brothers, they just will not find one.

Awwww, New Pokémon Snap comes out after my birthday. Oh well, still am looking forward to it. Think my brother said he preordered it, I'll have to ask him again.

I just wanna post this Rube Goldberg machine video they made to celebrate 25 years. It's actually pretty satisfying to watch.

I came to post the same video to call it dog shit. The Faux Rube Goldberg is alright, but it's all to reveal a Katy Perry song. Get raped.

Especially considering that song is going to be the only thing they reveal for the anniversary.

To me, Magmar's always sort of been the odd one out in RBY. I'm pretty sure you're correct about no trainer ever using it in-game because I can't remember a single one that does so. On top of that, I didn't where you could catch one off the top of my head, and actually had to google it. You can catch on Cinnabar Island in the Pokemon Mansion like I had been thinking, but only in Blue. I didn't even know that it was a version exclusive. To make matters worse, it has a very low encounter rate and only appears on certain floors of the building.

The way I see it, Magmar is so underused that it is entirely possible for a new player to think that's not a Gen 1 Pokemon at all, and is instead a Gen 2 because that's when you get an almost guaranteed chance of encountering it. The only other Pokemon that comes close to being the same way in my opinion is Electibuzz, but I'm pretty sure at least one trainer uses it in RBY at some point along the way.

Funnily enough, Electabuzz is rarer than Magmar. Magmar is a 10% encounter rate in Blue, but a 5% encounter in Red.

I was sure there was a trainer in Yellow who uses it, but some autist actually recently made a graph of how many times particular Pokémon (122 species) were used by trainers in Yellow and neither Electabuzz, Magmar, nor Scyther were listed, which lines up with my memory, as well as the prehistoric Pokémon except for Aerodactyl because Lance.

They set up magmar and electabuzz to be rivals in the anime. I always thought that was weird. Then we got electivire and Magmortar elvolving off similar Items in gen 4.
