Up to Wulfric. I think I've got a pretty good E4 team together: Aegislash, Goodra, Lucario, Greninja, Scolipede, and Charizard.

How are the Elite Four, difficulty wise? I've heard the Champion is kind of easy but the E4 can be trouble.
 
They are pretty easy. Though the LARPer with his Aegislash I have heard is a little difficult, but nothing a good earthquake could do.

If you can't tell, Wikstrom is hands down my favorite character this generation just because of his hamminess. He strikes me as one of those more athletic nerds that you see while LARPing and working at renaissance faires or in the SCA who likes roleplaying which I have met plenty of. I like to think he has this persona who is probably some really stereotypical paladin that he likes dress up as to make his job more interesting because seriously, who actually goes around wearing full plate mail on a regular basis these days who isn't into some sort of geeky hobby?
 
Now, the argument that pokemon is dog-fighting pretty prevalent amongst cynical people examining the series. Capture monsters from their natural habitat, train them to fight, breed when needed and fight them. If there were an pokemon-rights group in the pokemon universe, I think they would end up being portrayed as bad guys.

But that's not what I'm talking about here. You know those random trainers you see on the road/gyms? If you get inside their range of vision, they will come up and challenge you to a pokemon battle. You cannot run away from this, nor you can decline to battle. And if you lose, you black out for some reason with half your money gone.

Congratulations, that bug-catching kid just robbed your ass.

Those aren't trainer battles like portrayed in the show, they are attempted muggings that can only be thwarted by sending out your monsters to defend yourself. In the beginning, you are told it's too dangerous to go leave your town without a pokemon. It's not the pokemon that's the problem, it's all the assholes on the road ready to mug you. In addition, you cannot challenge them to a repeat battle. Talk to them, yes, but never challenge.The regions you travel through, isolated from other regions, are in reality ghettos where crime is rampant.

Continuing on, there is the condition of the roads to consider. They are covered in tall grass, sometimes trees force you to make a lengthy, mugger-filled detour instead of being cut down, navigating dark caves is a reoccurring thing. What I'm thinking is that road crews cannot maintain the roads without fear of getting jumped.

Which brings us to the nature of a pokemon license. In effect, it's a weapons permit. It allows you to defend yourself and gym badges further enhance the license. Those other "trainers?" The don't have licenses. They mostly have common pokemon that are easy to capture while you start off with the only charmander in the region. The license allows you to use the pokemon center, while for them it would lead to their arrest. That's why you can never again challenge them, their pokemon haven't been healed from the last time you battled. If they went to heal them, Officer Jenny would arrest them for illegally having a pokemon.

Pokemon is not a story about being the best. It's a story about a kid lowering the crime rate of his region with his monster pals.


Yeah, I haven't played since Silver. I was thinking about the possibility of accidental deaths in Medabot battles and it switched over to Pokemon for a second. Medabots are children's toys with live ammunition, pokemon are fighting monsters. It's so easy to abuse either.

Also, what kind of levels are they at? My 'mons are all in the lower fifties right now, and stuff in Victory Road has 5+ levels on them.

The highest level in the League is 70.

Seriously, why did we go back to needing Surf and Strength to get through? I had to put some seriously underleveled mons in my party, and nearly got my ass kicked during the final stretch.
 
When you spend an hour trying to find a Pikachu in Viridian Forest, that capture tastes all the sweeter.
 
Anyone want a Charmander? I've been trying to trade a freshly-hatched one on the GTS, but fucking nobody's looking for Charmander.
 
Since there's a bunch of Pokémon discussion in the recent Chris thread, I thought I'd bump this.
If my assumption is correct, that Chris is going full tomgirl and making a team based around non-threatening Fairies, then I'd be in a bad spot if I battled him, since 3/6 of my team is Dragon. I carry around an Arbok for Fairies, since Fairies are weak to Poison and Arbok gets the really rather excellent Coil + Gunk Shot combination, meaning you can annihilate Fairies very quickly and efficiently, but a lot of Fairies carry Psychic moves, so it's kind of a pain in that regard.
There aren't that many Steel Pokémon this generation, and the ones I really liked (the Honedge line) barely learn any Steel moves.
 
Anyone a fan of the Pokemon Mystery Dungeon series? I am currently playing Gates to infinity, that I got for my birthday and am about halfway through it. I played the Explorers of time one, but not the first one. I am going to get Pokemon Y for Christmas and playing that in between it.

Ehh, I've only played Red and Blue rescue team. I liked them enough.

That's a pretty good combination for Fairies. I have a Scolipede with Toxic and Venoshock, but the problem with that is that it takes two turns to do any real damage, and Scolipede is bad at taking hits, especially from Psychic type attacks. I've got an Aegislash with Iron Head if Scolipede goes down.
 
What you guys need is a poison dark type to deal with with those fairies, like Drapion or Skunktank

I thought about getting a Drapion, but eh, I like my Scolipede better. Besides, isn't Dark weak to Fairy?

People are going fuckin' crazy for Vivillon. I think it's the most traded pokemon on the GTS. I think my favorites are Ocean, Savannah, and Modern.
