There are CP and trafficking cases that get way less attention than Chris Chan despite being way more vile and more important. If anything its more a testament to the lunacy of the internet than it is a commentary on the effectiveness of the police.

I'm sure most of Ruckersville and the Greene County Sheriff's Office have known that Chris is the local village tard for decades now so that he finally did something like this won't be that far out of left field, though I'd think that while rape/incest cases are a dime a dozen for the average detective they're usually a parent raping their kid and not the other way around. Chris might not be the case of the century but they're going to be flooded with 'tips' acting like he is and sifting through a bizarre level of documentation that's going to make no sense whatsoever to them as to why it even exists.

I firmly believe the universe (or who/whatever is running it) has a wicked sense of humor and an utterly perfect sense of timing and pacing, and it plays a very long game sometimes for maximum lulz. Stuff like this just further cements that belief.

Regardless of prisons being private or not, (there is only 1 private prison in VA) prisoner cost does weigh in. If Chris is coming up for parole, prisoner administrators may push for his release if housing him costs more than the average. Prisoner release in the US occurs fairly often due to budget concerns. And Chris requiring extra care would put him on that short list.

Prison in America is about punishment, if "the law" says you are OK to release, then you've been "punished". Regardless of if you are still a danger.

I honestly believe that the sex offender registry is just an excuse to offer shorter sentences to offenders who should probably still be in jail.

It's called autogynephilia. Autogynephiles who have a fetish for being perceived as women are being prescribed hormones under the pretense of having gender dysphoria. Genuinely hope that there's a Purdue-level reckoning for the people pushing this shit and the doctors who handed out hormones like free candy. But I doubt it.

People have been convicted of rape like 15 years after the fact in just the victims word.
Chris’s words are going to be very relevant to his prosecution and defense. It remains to be seen how, but this is going to be a shit show. There’s also a lot of people that are confusing that hearsay actually is. It is A rumor, usually told to someone else, that cannot be independently substantiated. (Ie Joe told me <this> isn’t admissible unless Joe is available to testify that he did in fact say <this>) Texts and phone records puts any doubt to be as to who sent those texts and what was going on in that house.
When he said he was leaving a trail of bread crumbs for people to figure out who he was with, he wasn’t kidding. There’s a shit ton of evidence.
