I am here to get high nigger, you took away my drugs I can't take it Im freaking out!

Stickers are helpful to alert you when a thread you mildly care about is moving. They are usefull as a bookmarks because threads like Rackets move a page a second you miss things, stickers help me remember where I left off.

Its funny to watch people seethe. Where ever dear Feeder takes it I will follow Uber Alles!

I'm in favor of restoring the notifications at a minimum, for most or all of the reasons mentioned above.

As far as it affecting the opinions of posters or the willingness to express unpopular opinions, I think it can do both, for sure. But it's also a mechanism to communicate shared values and beliefs.

Humans rely on a lot of complex social cues and testing "in real life" to create communities that are obviously not possible online so I don't think it's unreasonable to use reaction stickers as a proxy for that. For example, I determined fairly quickly that I am not an "A & H" person for the most part based on how different posts are received.

This isn't unique to this site. Years ago I noticed an increasing shift in the Reddit userbase and determined I was out of sync with them and stopped using the site. That's a good thing, in my opinion. I don't think anyone would argue that I should have spent my time trying to adapt my thinking to fit in there.

Finally, I think reaction scores should be visible again. It's a useful metric for me when encountering outlier opinions, dramatic accusations, or challenging perspectives. There are several threads which by their nature tend to have gay-oppy aspects where people are pushing agendas for reasons not clear in their posts. The reaction score can be a proxy variable for the reliability of a user and it's helpful when parsing a lot of new information and deciding how much weight to give to a particular piece of information.

Stickers are a form of feedback and it seems counterintuitive to remove the ability for people to receive that notification.

I don't get mad if people dislike my post, but if I post something that isn't bait or intentionally contrarian and it gets a ton of negrates, I might wonder if there's a reason why everyone thinks I'm autistic or retarded. I also like seeing if a thread is getting traffic again due to sticker activity picking up weeks or months later.

Might as well remove stickers entirely now. Sure, sticker notifications are social media faggotry but i liked 'em.
I mean, I personally don't see the point anymore of having them. Forums existed very active forever without social media garbage like updoots. I'd live if they completely went away.

And now you might have to actually read threads in general, owned.
"Everyone doesn't read threads the same way I do REEEEEEEEEEEEEEE"

I never had them on, so don't care, but am curious exactly what sparked this. Something something Catlergate something. I dunno, I lost track somewhere.

Sticker complaints have been an issue for years. A&N is famous for being a crybaby shithole about it, they lost stickers themselves for a while.

Null really should have just given mods the option to turn off sticker notifications for individual users. If someone bitched about negrating constantly, just nuke their notifications, let the rest of us get on with being happy little autists who navigated the site differently than him.

Or yes, enjoyed the dopamine hits, God forbid someone enjoy using your site slightly more than the government's daily recommended amount of enjoyment.

I think getting rid of stickers would force more users to talk about what is actually bothering them about another's user's post. Then we could use our words like adults to talk things out.

When I think about it a second, stickers are simply a net neutral for me. I have a lot of arguments for and against their existence, but in the end, I just don't fucking care. I'd still use this site if there were no stickers, that's for sure.

i'm sure all the threats-by-proxy and insinuating stuff about his mentals over needing to click one extra time will reverse the decision. it definitely doesn't sound like you're in withdrawal from the thing you absolutely don't care about

Lol what a shitty fucking concern troll you are.

The biggest crybabies about it were the likes of HHH, I rarely saw anybody from the right get butthurt about it. It was always people that had stupid left-wing takes getting mad about the reacts. Everybody involved with that shit was making up stuff cause they wanted A&N removed from the site.

The issue here is stickers are also a release valve for slapfighting. Without stickers, you're gonna get more spergs slapfighting for pages over dumb bullshit. Normally I'm all for this, but it gets tiring reading irrelevant pages of reeing.

But then we'd have 500 pages of insults every time someone posts something retarded, with stickers mild to moderate seething is released in a condensed manner

It is funny people complained about muh dopamine hit when laughing (at retards) does the same thing.

But I guess the problem is I'm enjoying the website the wrong way or some shit? Because I don't like having to manually watch shit constanly for months at a time where nothing happens and has to constantly cycle through lolcows to have a stable source of milk. Like in Spamela's old thread. Or stan's. iirc I got banned a while ago at some thread for trying too hard to get blood from stone.

Or god forbid watching threads where nothing happens but people still posts on it constantly. Like Anisa's bullshit attentionwhoring.

Yeah as everyone that complained about DM's getting fucked can attest. The public face of this website is not the place to air out your feelings. Especially ones involving shitflinging. Unless you want an extra 50 pages a day.

And that's a bad thing. Threads already get cluttered up, the last thing we need is 20 people replying to a post saying "right on bro" or "lol no".

This entire comment could have been replaced by a :disagree: sticker, and neither you nor I are better off for me spending 2 minutes to type it out.

I liked sticker notifications:) Sometimes an old post will get a sticker and the notification reminds you that the thread exists and you can go there and read the new messages. It's fun. Plus there was a way to turn them off before, right? So nobody has to see them if they don't want to.

We retards have spoken with our voots

Why were they removed to start with?

It started in Null's thread about the new DM chain policy (thread now closed).

Mankirk made a post why he likes to use DMs and DM chains (here) and gave different reasons. One of the reasons was "It doesn't gamify your posting or reactions". Null's reaction:

From there the sticker and sticker notifications issue somehow started to took over the thread but before anyone wants to blame Mankirk here is how he responded:

Anyways, the whole sticker thing became more and more the topic of the thread and at some point Null disabled the sticker score and immediately some people posted in the tech grievances thread which led to this reaction:

More sperging about stickers and sticker notifications ensued and then Null decided to go full Jihad on the sticker question:

The thread got completely derailed, 1 gorillion new threads about stickers and sticker notifications got created and some other threads got derailed too.
