Someone advertised their own comicbook Kickstarter on the forum and this has literally never happened before. It has never been wise to ever admit to posting on the forum or associating it with your projects, so I've never had to think about it before. On this path of LEGITIMIZATION
, it's now less bad to be on the forum.
It raises the question of if this is actually against the rules. Spam is not allowed and I nuke spammers all the time, but actually participating in a relevant thread and then saying you're making an alternative that you're selling (and have successfully sold; his kickstarter is already funded) is a new one.
On one hand, total advertiser death.
On the other hand, entrepreneurship is based,
On one hand, advertisements are annoying and we're not being compensated for ad space.
On the other hand, allowing people active in certain industries to utilize the forum to discuss their work in relevant threads is probably a boon.
I'm actually leaning towards tolerating it as long as it's gentle or relevant. Something Awful had a lot of people pitching projects at its peak.
Poll results not binding. Discussion encouraged.
