If it's not spam and its kept contained inside a thread, I don't see why it can't be allowed.

Maybe have a specific tag for self promotion threads. That said, anyone ballsy enough to powerlevel to this degree should probably also go through the verification process with Mods. There is definitely chances of Gay Ops where someone is pretending to be someone else in order to smear them by implication. This sort of behavior is especially prevalent in the crowd funding and patreon space

If its not spam why the fuck not , as long as they stick to their designated shitting street nobody will give a fuck .
I agree with this. As long as it doesn't get out of hand then it should be fine. You can easily let them know if they are out of their lane or not and address it directly. We should active encourage people here to do this type of marketing.

Would it be fine to introduce a simple banner ad one can pay for? Similar to what 4chan is doing now. So long as it's not something obnoxious like SUPER DEEPTHROAT. I'm sure if users were confident they wouldn't be getting barraged with garbage like they do on forbes or other news sites they'd be more open to whitelisting.

I wouldn't mind seeing a thread shilling self-promoted works. If they're willing to out themselves as being part of KF, and it's a neat-enough product or likewise, I'm sure there'd be plenty who would throw some support behind it.

Majority of forum-users are savvy enough to distinguish between accounts made with the purpose of shilling, and long-standing users, and I'm sure there would be call-out posts highlighting the former for the rest.

It's incredible to me how the owner of a forum where it's explicitly stated upon registration that you should NOT post anything that links to your real life identity is asking "is it OK if people advertise their IRL ventures"

As long as it's not spam or gay and is relevant than it's probably good. It's like threading a needle's eye for it to be all of these things.

I don't think its a bad thing as long as it is relevant and doesn't get out of hand. We feature things like crunklord's projects and such.

Could be good for the farm's reputation in the long term as a supportive community.
