The only downside is the potential of people outside the forums seeing (X) user advertised "Their Project" and using it to defame and destroy what might be a damn good project because "KIWIFARM BAD", but I also imagine if people are willing to advertise here they're willing to bite that bullet.
Also feels like a weird place to peddle your wares.

Could be interesting, on the other hand, having shill vampires shitting the site trying to milk people could be a disaster. Just keep it contained on a separate zone.

Ether way it will be funny to see the usual suspects losing their minds over it. Bonus points if the first Kiwi-endorsed product is Null's best friend Jim hat empire.

Immediately makes me think of Kinofag promoting his gay a-log Twitter account, so no. I see no point in letting people shit up threads to promote themselves.

Allow it on a case-by-case basis. Is a new account shilling some shit or is the user being annoying? Ban. Is a long-time user organically promoting something they're working on without being a sperg? Approve.

On this path of LEGITIMIZATION

I'm going to quote myself here from March 2024 in a post I made, in a thread I made, about a need for a hands-on hobby board. Which we ended up getting recently.

Then a board like this should excite you. If someone is dumb enough to post a picture with identifiable info (usually in the background) then they get doxed.

But doxing doesn't matter so much if you're not a retard and/or degenerate. The reason !DOXXXING! is such a hot topic is because trannies and other creeps have to many skeletons in their closet.

There are plenty of verified posters on this site. Caroline Farrow comes to mind, Joshua Moon is another.

But you are correct, doxing does worry people. KF does after all hunt down trans women and people of color. We're basicly a murder factory. But the tide's are turning. More and more million subscribers influencers are talking about KF in a neutral tone. We're on track for no longer being the boogeyman of the Internet.

When you demonize something as bad as KF has been, it ends up drawing eyes to it. Among those eyes, some will see KF for what it really is.

This is more harmless than A&N spergs screaming at each other. If the ignore button solves that issue, it also solves this issue.

Don’t want to see self-promotion? Simply ignore the user.

copy the SA model and make it a case by case basis, also maybe have a policey that they need to clear it with you or a mod.

How about only allowing advertisements as new threads, and nuking people who advertise in existing threads? At least then if some idiot starts spamming, it'll be pigeonholed away, and if there's really stupid advertisers, we can get more local cows and entertainment out of it like Monostar Leatherknuckles, without derailing an existing thread or allowing them to be ignored by other posts. I think anyone brave enough to advertise here would at least be an interesting person.

i would suggest encouraging the community to help enforce some simple rules:

1. no promotion by new accounts
the farms should not be a place where someone is permitted to register only to shill their product. the community could report shilling posts from new accounts, and new users could be limited to shilling only after engaging.

2. once a post has been identified as a promotion, it should be tagged as such
the community could report shilling posts. mods could then add a tag to the post with some kind of disclaimer like "self-promotion: this product is not endorsed by kiwi farms, consoom or support at your own discretion".

3. no promotion in lolcow threads
lolcow threads are for lolcow content, not shamelass self-promotion. the community could report posts that are shilling in dedicated lolcow threads, so that mods could either tag and move the post, or delete it altogether.

4. no promotions in community happenings or a&h threads
your project and/or product is not a happening ... unless, of course, it generates a halal thread.

So I could sell my own skate decks* in the Bam Margera thread? Sure go for it. Jersh your standards are so high I trust you won’t condone any bullshit.

*No I do not sell skatedecks.

I think a rule where it's allowed "subject to Null's good graces" or some shit prevents the worst cases and allows KF to grow as a community of real people doing real things.

Products affiliated with KW provide "credibility"—defense against anti-KW FUD. There is major harm if done correctly. I, consequently, believe this should be allowed for the time being, with strict rules to enforce (1) transparency (2) that nothing disrupts the normal experience & mission of the KW (3) keeping those posts without marketing BS.

The hard part will be to stop sock puppets that totally aren't the person who is running the kickstarter, but are really for real talking about it bc it's suuuper relevant.. The shittiest end of this stick is where you'll find a lot of folks tend to.

IMO, allow pics but not links. It's ok to talk about your endeavors if it's relevant, but keep the links out. If people are interested, they'll go search.

As long as it's a promotion for the idea for a manga called Red Mist™.

I don't think it isn't even that unusual for a forum of this size to have a population of users with legitimate products to sell. In terms of self-promotion in general, that one faggot with all the sektur related Zitter accounts should remain in exile. When it comes to something like services, I don't necessarily want to see every other doompost be replied to by "life-coaches" even if a lot of those kinds of grifters have great cow potential. If someone has a product in hand, or it has already met their initial funding for a product beyond the point of being able to cut and run, then it would be cool to see some stuff to buy from people instead of the devil.
