I'm honestly mixed on this. On one hand, this could result in retards coming to the forum with the sole purpose of shilling their projects. On the other hand, it is cool to see if any forum members are working on something rather unique and unheard of. It can go either way and it feels like a double edged sword. I'm leaning towards yes, but I still have reserved concerns.

As long as it's on-topic and the user has actually contributed to the forum (i.e. no fresh accounts) I'm perfectly fine with it.

Voting yes because it's a not a one-way street with a lot of benefits. If someone finds success because they got a spotlight from the forum then that's just a stronger ally on your side.

Grass-roots entrepreneurship and being able to say "that massively successful project that a lot of normal non autistic people like got it's start on kiwifarms" really does legitimize the site, much like the SA alumni that was put together for the Lowtax stream.

I think most people are only adverse to advertising if it's completely worthless zog slop like temu banners or some Amazon scam garbage. Completely different ballpark than something like "guys I made a game/comic book/music/open source project come check it out".

I don't really see a massive negative outcome from this. worst case scenario a grifter slips through the cracks and gets publicly shamed and ridiculed by the entire site afterwards, best case scenario you can be a part of history if something really takes off. You've gotta be a real low IQ retard to publicly expose your taint to the farms in hopes for cash, and not expect to be doxed and ridiculed until the end of time for trying to pull off some scam.

There's also already a precedent for spotlighting other free community projects (the doom wad, the SS13 server, crunklords TempleOS games, etc). Not exactly the same thing as promoting a commercial product you intend to sell, but not that far off either imo.

I came here to post this. But I suppose that if people act retarded, their posts and account can simply be nuked at the mods' discretion. If someone sticks to one advertising thread in a relevant forum that would be fine with me. Kiwis have made cool stuff before.

It’s fine if they’re an actual contributing member of the community and they don’t get obnoxious about it.

As long as they don't start spamming it everywhere or start sperging out at you because of any negative attention they receive, I don't see any real harm in it.

I'd say yes, because if it somehow gets excessive, there can be a guideline added that they need to put the promotion in spoilers, so no one has to look at it if they don't want to.

Self promotion seems fine unless its gay or spam. You might consider creating your own ad spaces and allowing people who reach out to you with a valid project pay a fee to advertise. Imagine how much Liz Fung Jones will dilate when you actually start the road to total Google death by bypassing their monopoly on advertisement.

Im all for it big time.

As someone who loves small biz stuff, years of it and my own. Now we have a fiance section maybe also a sticky for this and or hook ups.

For when it's not relevant to the site or would be spam elsewhere. Something like a place to post "free haircuts to Orlando kiws just stop by and say don't call anybody " to help launch a barber shop. For example.

Also spammers and idiots will be possible milk. We could have our own "Kickstarter TV" maybe null might want to even do his own bad reviews for when chinse corps send him some cheap ass espresso machine. (Triple points if we ever hear ",I'm Joshua moon and check out raid shadow legends")

Not that I assume wed soften up for spammers I don't see an issue also some cows have people who archive or super cut videos and post their channels and are monetized and that's always been ok.

I think helps make form look legit gives a place for niche lolcow stuff too worse case you can always revise it or cut it if we don't do it we don't know what fun hook ups (not the grinder kind) and laughs we could get.

It's a good thing. You can always block it with an element blocker, so for most based people, it wouldn't be an issue, I guess.

I never understood why KF never did self-promoting internal ads like on 4chan, where people pay pennies to advertise their projects or their favorite cows.

Require them to be true and honest before they start self promoting. $20 is a nominal fee to advertise to a crowd of retards. You may as well squeeze them for a little bit of money if they’re going to do it.

Advertisements being pushed in front of me from huge corps trying to get me to buy their car insurance or whatever is way different than a little guy on Kiwi boosting their projects. I don’t mind paying for good things made by an actual person. Also, if it’s relevant then it’s interesting, and nobody has to click the links if they don’t want to. We already have a couple members making cool games and art, so I think it could be considered cultural enrichment or something.

This thread has a LOT of
"It's okay as long as..."
"Just if it doesn't turn into....."
"Only if it's not....."

While I want to be optimistic, I assume these fears will prove correct sadly.

I voted 'no'
Supporting entrepeneurship is good but it'll inevitably attract attentionseekers and other assorted unwanted trash that aren't a part of the community.

Though if the farmz ends up with its own Katawa Shoujo, that would be cool, ngl. Plus supporting creative endevours is always a positive. I'm just fearing for the worst, long term. Hopefully it won't hurt the site or its community.
