I have a question.

From what I've read in this thread, the most tangible negative effect of allowing notifications is that there are some retarded faggots out there who get so assmad about negative reactions that they start flame wars with each other and even file reports to staff. I get that you don't want to ban them and agree that would be overkill. So what I want to know is:

What obligation do you feel you have to take these people seriously and not just tell them to fuck off and deal with it?

i propose a new sticker with a image of a small cloud to display OFFICIAL CLOUD SEAL OF APROVALL

If I say something a bit retarded most people won't put in the effort to directly shit up a thread by calling me retarded but many would click a sticker calling me retarded so I think it's pretty useful, I appreciate being call out when I'm acting retarded. From what I saw in the userscript thread most of the arguments where basically the fact that the reaction page specifically was a convenient way to keep track of activity in the threads you where posting in and to have an easy spot to pop back into which I think is fair reasoning since a lot of the other thread tracking methods like bookmarks and watchthreads arnt the best right now.

Idk, I've never enabled reaction notifications, and I think they're good because other people who use the site seem to like them or find them useful. An internet forum is supposed to be a nice thing people do, so if a user enjoys them and isn't a known retard then personally I assume they're a good thing.

Oh no, they're going to get a dopamine hit from people giving them nice ratings or w/e. They'll stray from the ascetic path of internet usage. There isn't supposed to be dopamine involved when you're posting online, you're supposed to sit there frowning over your keyboard, in pain, tapping away out of a sense of principle.

It's a little weird to say you aren't obsessed with reactions when you've apparently put this much thought into why they're evil and nobody should have them. They're stickers, if people like them for whatever reason then let them have them. If you think they're dumb, don't look at them.

Horrifying. Alright, then...
i'm also confused at why humans, who are social animals, might enjoy knowing that what they say is enjoyed by others. and, by receiving feedback from users they respect, they can adjust their behavior and engage in a more pro-social and cohesive way in a community they want to engage in

i am further bewildered by the idea that someone might enjoy seeing a reaction to an old post in a thread, both for personal gratification and the notice that a thread they were interested enough to post in but not interested enough to watch might have some minor yet informative update

of course, i also happen to be an alien who has come here to observe your species' strange behavior from afar as a research. are you another one of us? don't lie. you'll know the special handshake if you are

oh, now I understand why I'm getting these again. I should probably turn them off or something

Turned em off already. I really only want quotes and being tagged showing up.
If you aren't getting 25+ stickers a day when you login, your posts are janky and you might have Downs Syndrome, it's wellness info you are willfully denying

EDIT: we are so back
