I use watched threads without issue. Can you PLEASE, FUCKING EXPLAIN TO ME how getting "X replied to Y" is less intrusive than "X reacted to Z in Y" ten times in a fucking row?????

I fucking promise you that this dumb shit you're doing is not intentional. You are not supposed to navigate and keep track of the site by ARBITRARY PINGS about posts getting liked. I can't even fathom that you think this is even a desirable outcome.

Ease down man, the post I responded to there was more against using reactions to navigate at all, since honestly it still doesn't actually help beyond ego. Post history is silly, but it can help in going back to specific points in threads that the highlights might miss depending on how they stack. I also listed other methods I consider far more useful, like watched threads, the alerts function, and search functions for the same purpose.

I agree with the compromise you set man, I'm not ribbing you on this.

Unfortunately yes, it is. It's why sites that offer interaction metrics as a feature are the most successful. People generating content (y'know... morons.) aren't driven by some sense of community quorum, they are individual people who want validation in the empty void that is their lives.

There is a reason retards on Xitter spout off about getting 'ratioed', grandma gets mad when you don't 'like' her Facebook post wishing you a happy birthday, and people send real actual money to have some anime girl puppet or Rekieta read their superchat aloud. "If I get positive recognition for the things I do, then I have value." isn't that bizzare of a sentence if you take several steps back and look through the cloudy lens of human psychology.

This is integral to a humans desire to belong to the clan, which is tied to survival. If you are outcast from the collective, you are at risk of encountering more dangers, less likely to find a mate, or may struggle to find resources. We are evolutionarily designed to want to be socially accepted. The modern internet has distilled this down to upvotes, likes, and, yes, stickers. Forget reading the praises and critiques others provide, the upvote does it for you. When someone gets lots of "Dumb" stickers, the computer is telling some small part of their animal brain that they are at risk of dying. Similarly, when you remove this social feedback it's like losing a sixth sense. You are suddenly unaware of your position in the pecking order and that is a similar threat to ones own being.

Null is being overly dramatic for no reason. If this reaction stuff is causing forum to slow down, if this has effect on speed or infrastructure, sure, go ahead and disable it. If this is causing feuds or making problems, sure, just solve it by disabling stickers. I think this is the classical situation of "Those who mind don't matter and those that matter won't mind".

But what is this whole BS about "you are NOT supposed to use it THIS WAY"? This is a behavior of a child. Ok, so some people have lower IQ and that is how they use it. As long as it works for them, what's the issue? I literally never care how or in what way people use the things I create as long as it works for them.

I said this in another thread, this is a behavior of a soydev who can't stand the thought that the thing he programmed is used in a way he did not predict. There is literally 0 good reason to care about this or get angry. The only people who get angry when faced with this are those, who are unsure of their skill level and take such things as personal slight.

If it isn't stickers, it will be something else. People like feedback from the community and the highlight feature needs a way to rank posts so it can highlight it. If null replaces it with another post ranking system then people will get autistic about that instead, no matter what it is. If we have nothing to rate posts, then people will get autistic about something else that they can use to measure community response (like getting replies).
