drew a girl pilot to go with a hue shift of the jet fighter:

Finished the sketch I posted earlier. This time I tried out the “easy” shading technique of filling in solid colors and doing highlights/shadows in separate blend layers on top. As far as that experiment goes, I’m really happy with how this turned out, and it’s also a much quicker and cleaner method than actual painting. I can definitely see what it’s such a popular style.
Lineart wise, I’m pretty happy with my technique of “draw thick line-art and carve it down to the desired thickness with an eraser”— it’s effective and repeatable, and subtle enough to not be distracting, especially if I go through the effort of coloring it to be not-black (which I haven’t done here).
Anatomy wise, there’s definitely stuff to improve on - the perspective, combined with the poofy skirt, definitely make the legs a bit questionable. Not 100% set on it, but maybe the legs could be moved up a bit... could use a second opinion here if anyone wants to do a redline/anatomy breakdown. I also realized I have no idea how to draw small boobs, because I’ve already shrunken them a lot from the original sketch but they’re still looking super round.

Easily the best part of this method over painting is how easy it is to go back and tweak things because everything is done on different layers with solid colors.

I added a square “shadow” and some other geometric suggestions to try and sell the perspective a bit more, Right now I’m happy to keep doing simple abstract/geometric/gradient backgrounds since right now I’m focusing more on character drawing and colors.

She loves this character a bunch so i just added a floofy huggy sweater and a warm welcoming expression~

Though uh... it may not have stayed quite so warm, but welcoming I'll leave to your imagination~
