Recently caught swimmer's ear, bad version and was given steroid, well apparently according to my wife i was freaking out about man in hat, and she was very curious wtf I was acting maniac for so I try to recreate what I could vaguely remember, I probably shouldn't share it but I am going to anyways.bug (20250625071403).webp
And this was just me messing around again with digital thinking of lady bug on my window and wondering how they see world.

After going through some iterations and variations, I created a sort of logo for my use.

wol_v4.webp

My intent with the logo was to recreate a motif of my visual imagination where an emplaced machine like a figure sits operating levers or conduits in an ordered fashion or with purpose. The idea in the design was to depict this motif in a sort of simplified fashion.

I put down some initial sketches in the image below.
One might see the top one and think that it notably resembles a subject in one of my previous posts, and there is a connection in this resemblance. The bottom one ended up being the one that would be fleshed out since it was simpler and looked better with the circular "eye" element. The eye section connects with another visual motif for devices or characters that have an actual eye, or some photoreceptor in general, situated on a spherical pod (similar to the basic form of personality cores from Portal).

After the sketches, I went to Inkscape to put it down, but I decided to not import the sketch to trace since I wanted to explore variations on the lower section.
Results followed, starting with the earliest rendition (V1):

I basically created the V1 to the respective sketch, but I wanted to add another "rod/lever" to the open "arm" on the right. Additionally, I wanted to explore adding a gradient to the eye to give it depth and make it like a jewel of sorts. I also experimented with various dark variants where palette of the fill and edges outside of the eye were swapped.
This resulted in the next version (V2):

Onward from this version, I started experimenting with using and testing the variants as profile pictures on here, which may have been noticed on various backgrounds.

Back to having the eye in mind as a jewel, I also wanted to adjust the coloring of the surrounding elements to give the entire thing a sort of sandstone theme to make it seem like an ancient artifact from a desert or someplace like Egypt. With V2, I tried applying some gradients on it. The result just below is where I got to before I wanted to try shading the stroke lines. After I messed with the mesh gradient in an attempt to get selective shading on the edges, I decided it was not the vision I had in mind and in hindsight it looks more like a golden amulet.

The gilded look isn't bad, but I wasn't satisfied with the silhouette just yet, so I went on to the version (V3):

With V3 below, I got something more symmetrical as I instead decided to try to raise both arms. I wanted to test some horizontal mirror symmetry, with the center of the eye as the axis, in order to make it look clean in my eye and to give me some room to crop it for an image to focus/center on the eye part. Part of this involved making the "neck" or "stalk" slightly skinnier.
When I wasn't satisfied with how it looked as a profile pic, I tried upping the stroke/edge width to make it look fuller [which would make it more like the original sketch]. I ended up liking the results from that adjustment, but then I came back to the eye gradient and I didn't like it then, so I substituted it with simpler, inset orange tones to bring it to consistency with the simple shading/coloring. Finally, I then changed the palette to be off white and off black to make it stand out from a white background [and also because I believe pure white and black are colors to be used sparingly, if it isn't a general rule of thumb].

V3 is a good candidate, but I looked at it again and I still didn't take to the shape of it, so I modified it the form, going back to the elements of the basic sketch to get image V4, the unspoilered image.

As for my profile pic, I created a Bayer dithered white-to-gray gradient, edited it, scaled it up and then overlaid the final version of the logo [with cropped out bottom edge] on it. My prior experiments had either no background or some olive green background.

Edit:
The sketches in the spoiler for the above piece actually were done in the midst of other sketches in a document. I've decided to post it below:

I was doing some figure/character sketches for practice and to test expressions, poses, faces, and other things to further develop my style.
It's a redraw of a subject from one of my old profile pictures when I went by Ocumux; I decided to apply my current style over this pencil sketch as a base to see if I could reinvent the design.

This feller in particular is a late adolescent named Tex.
