Would you be willing to show the reference photo?

Giving fur depth is never easy because of its course nature and how it springs out from the skin. Try to see how light bends and touches certain parts of the fur, how it changes the color based on where light touches. It could also help to start bog: Block out the fur in large quantities, seeing what parts look of what colors and roughing them in as such. Then go through and blend those rough patches together so they look like they connect and form. It's fine if what you paint doesn't look 100% like a real cat's fur, in fact part of creating a distinct and enjoyable painting is being able to make your creation look realistic while still having strokes and blends that make it seem imaginary and fantastical.

As for eyes, study closely at the way eyes rest on the face. Look at the wrinkles around the eyes and how light creates the shapes around them. Make sure to blend eyes with the understanding off how light changes their colors based on where it hits.

Light is important in giving form and shape to features :x

Sure, its a little bit potato quality because it was taken on an old flip phone. im also not trying to make it eView attachment 90104 xactly the same as the pic but
No such thing as a potato photo when it comes to cat photos.

I would add blues and yellows to the eyes to kinda brighten them up a bit. I find that when I'm working on something with a really less than ideal quality reference, I try to make up for it by adding colors that may not necessarily be in the actual photo, but would add depth to the portrait.

I just started drawing again and I had no clue what to do, so I did a picture of @Cthulhu during the autfag thread. Sorry for the bad pics. No scanner+shitty camera=blurry
