Seeing that both characters have such simple, generic designs
Simple designs are generally a thing for Mario games. I mean it's a series where 3 of the major players are just "man in a handyman type work uniform with overalls and a mustache". Now, normally you'd be able to go "well they're both pirates and this is a pretty stereotypical generic pirate"but then that neglects the similar proportions and literally everything else that's one to one almost with the character visually.

Speaking of which I've noticed some shit that's now bothering me about the mario game redesign shit. The modern redesign of syrup from wii onwards is just basically an evil version of the redesign of pauline from around the same time period that they've been using since then. I even found a schizo theory post or 2 that they were the same person when trying to find more examples of the gameboy games era appearance.

Not sure if photography is appropriate here or not. Sometimes I'll take photographs and use AI drawing assist to create trippy scenes. Would appreciate feedback ✌️

It looks pretty cool overall, but the image could use a bit of "post-production." The photo and the AI elements need to be better integrated. Some filters or blurring would probably help with that.
You could also be more creative with the placement of the AI stuff, like putting the devil guy in the shadow under the bridge to make the image more creepy.

Hey man, thanks for the suggestions. I'm not pleased with it as a finished item, but at the same time lost sight of where I should go. Even messing around with my phone's built in filters, softening up some of those pixels makes a difference. If I come up with a better version following your suggestions, I'll be sure to post the results ✌️

Edit: Wow, what a difference playing with filters made!

Just some random sketches I was doing, playing around with character variations and getting outta my comfort zone some more

Hey man, I wanted to thank you again. I started fucking with filters on other pieces that just weren't coming together how I wanted, this piece being a prime example. I know this isn't high art or anything, but it looked like dogshit clip art cut out of magazines and glued on the photo before I applied a filter. You've given a boatload of my projects and second chance.
