"Post your Art" Thread

Redid the whole design and still have things to do with itView attachment 299143
I'd buy a 2d cinematic platformer based on this artpiece in a heartbeat.

Does anyone have any advice on how to start gesture drawing? I feel kind of overwhelmed by just looking at a picture and letting my hand just do its thing.

Sketching hands as imple geometrical shapes at first is pretty helpful I think. I also usually sketch my hands as pentagons rather than squares to account for how there's a little slope on your hand starting after your middle finger, making your pinky connect to your palm at a lower point compared to the rest of your fingers. Sketching fingers as cylindrical shapes is also useful, since it helps you keep track of the direction each finger is looking and what part of each phalanges are covered by the others. Keeping in mid how much distance there is between your fngers depending on how much you stretch them is also a good idea.

As for emotive gesturing, I usually like to just think about what expression I associate with each gesture. Sometimes I imagine a facial expression, and the try to think of what pose would go with it the best. Knowing the personality traits of the characters you draw can also help, like whether they're introverted or extroverted, they body language, stuff like that.

Hope this helps.

It may have been discussed in this thread or maybe this is the wrong thread to do this in but, how do you people overcome bad feelings about your art when you're trying to create something? I see so much great stuff here. How did you keep from balling up the paper and quitting forever?

I reaply struggle with it to the point of not even bothering to lift a pencil. Sometimes you juet gotta force it i guess and just doodle random stuff I guess and maybe get a bit carried away with it

I find it's a lack of motivation for me personally. Sometimes something catches my attention (like the Inktober prompts) and I could just do it. I'm already starting to get into the expensive Holbein watercolor set from the Ghibli Museum sketching set my pal over in Japan sent me! I'm gonna have some fun times with that (if I don't mess up).

Lack of motivation is a killer for me too, that paired up with not being able to draw things natural looking (everything comes out very rigid i guess) or in proportion etc kills it for me too. I know I should practice my weaknesses but... Come full circle right back to no motivation lmao.

Oohhh nice one, Trilby! You should post some of your work with it on here. Also I wanna say I really enjoyed your inktober stuff so far too!

Reminded I have a manikin thingy I could look at, but I never do. I guess I like to guess how to draw the body from a different angle or position without copying a reference.

Thank you! I'll try my best.

Got some more this week!

The pose was hard to nail so I used a bunch of references ugh but yeah I'm feeling pretty ok about this piece

They do not have names yet; I'm stumped.
Also, the pose came out really well!

A new character I made up, named him Gunner. He's a black wolf. I also need to practice drawing more holy heck.
I can't decide on a hairstyle for him I'm still not 100% with this one..

edit: lightened up the colour by about 4% because on my phone it was dark as fuck and someone else said "he mad black".
