A close up, because there is cleavage lol

Is it me or is lack of paying attention a root problem with artists? Some tend to only pay attention to bootlickers or more popular artists rather than building a community of chill open-minded people.

What combats short attention spans?

It’s just a problem of motivation, I think. Are you drawing to improve your own skill, or for your own enjoyment? Or are you drawing hoping to get asspats and attention?

Besides, I think it’s hard to build a community around art critique. Good critique takes time and effort, and a community dedicated to art critique will necessarily have way more art newbies than experienced artists. The Farms is unique in that this is a niche sub-board on an already niche forum, which means the shit you post doesn’t get lost in an endless stream of content.

the value ranges of her face skin value range and body skin value range do not match. her body needs a greater value range. Skin as fair as hers would have a lot of subsurface scattering of light. That subsurface scattering is sort of present on her face, but not on the body. Presumably, her body should be receiving as much light as her face is catching. Match the lighter skin values on her body to her face so it looks more integrated with her body.

People actually get mad over dithering?

Yeah, particularly newer pixel artists and in the pokemon community. I remember posting sprite art on forums years back that went apeshit because I used dithering. What a lot of them don't realise is that dithering is very much like a seasoning - using just enough can really enhance a piece, but use too much and all you can taste (or see in this case) is the seasoning, drowning out the rest of the dish.

Got any more wisdom to share on “diagnosing” art problems? This is the kind of info that would be really helpful to know but nobody seems to really talk about.

Nice try, Gustave Dore.

Less content.
Go to insta or DA and see all the artists who spend hours on pieces, and realize that you just scroll past all of them. Theres so much new stuff out there all the time and its more accessible than ever. I scroll past works from artists I love all the time because not everything they make is eye grabbing. With so much going on, its really hard to give somebody pause and soak up a piece of art.

Also maybe publicly people you follow give their ass kissers attention because duh people like themselves and fans who worship them. But on a private discord or something they might have like minded artists for critiques. I was lucky enough to work with a former photography teacher who gave the best insights when i showed him my stuff. Sex is cool but another artist validating what you were going for is a whole other level.

power leveling:
I simply run into a wall when trying to draw. I simply can't draw so I can't draw. And drawing random circles don't help much either.
What do?
