I would be more impressed if they got the player to care about a functional android that's been torn and roughed up a bit; showing the internal robotic nature of the character; maybe throw in biological hints.

There's a famous visual novel that does exactly that and does not sexualize the fmc in any way. The robot, who appears to be a robot for the entirety of the plot line, unexpectedly sacrifices herself to save the main character. He was a post-apocalyptic scavenger looking for technology to salvage in a planetarium and the only "guest" the planetarium had seen in possibly hundreds of years. Her reasons for doing this are never explained and presented as the product of a completely alien and unknowable mind.

It's widely considered one of the best if the not the single best VN of all time.

I think even having to look at the game like this is the issue. Its a fucking video game. Shoot the fucking robots its not that deep. The best thing and most stand out thing about this game to me is I can tell by watching the trailers from a few years ago the just dropped and cut I feel like half of the game. I say this as a compliment as it could have just lost the plot at any time and over stayed its welcome. I liked bring you're daughter robot to dead space 8/10 a little easy at times.

there are dad-related things though, especially at the ending with hugh being infected with the dead filament and letting diana go instead even though she is a robot... makes no sense but from a dad perspective it's basically him hoping she can fare better because he is doomed and thinks to be less important than her, an actual fucking robot that can be rebuilt...
