What was the last slightly above average game to get a lot of discussion? Wuchang? Feels like it happens decently often these days.

I do find it funny Null brought up the Walking Dead example in his post because I remember playing Season 2, the one where you play as Clementine, and there was an adolescent girl you met while you were sneaking around trying to find medical supplies to dress a dog bite. She was a CHILD acting within the parameters of how CHILDREN normally act, especially ones who've never stepped outside the house because their father, rightfully, wants to keep them protected. Her father dies at some point and this CHILD doesn't know how to process it and this CHILD is struggling to process everything that's happened to her from watching her dad get eaten by zombies (I think?) to having to constantly change settings which can really upset a CHILD.

So basically because this CHILD acted like a CHILD within the parameters of a child who's lived in a comfortable household with very little hardship, guess what? Men who played the game fucking hated her. They hated her because she was acting like a CHILD because that's how CHILDREN act in these situations. I've seen comments saying shit like "I don't know, I just hate children and she just really annoyed me" when asked why people hated her. I guarantee you these people who are acting like it's all based would probably get into parenthood and hate it. Because their idea of parenthood isn't exactly what they had in mind.

Assuming the character is Sarah, there is a few reasons for that.
  1. She's 15. Still a child, but at an age where many would feel she shouldn't be so helpless, even if there's plenty good reason for her actions.
  2. She has the 1-2 punch of being sheltered and anxious, which is a bit to deal with.
  3. At least for broad strokes, she doesn't get much more than being a damsel in distress. It doesn't sound like she gets a chance to develop beyond that.
While Pragmata looks at parenting overly positively, Sarah's story is very bleak. One is just positive, the other just negative. Neither is completely fair to parenting, a tough albeit fulfilling part of life. Basically, don't let video games decide whether you should be a parent.

Forgetting everything else around this game, non-stop repetitive fucking chat during action alone is enough to make me avoid any game.

I had to mod the Stealth Suit mk II in New Vegas because the fucking thing would not stop talking to you, even tricking you about nearby enemies. I even got annoyed enough at the bards in Skyrim to mod them so they ‘play more and sing less’.

With the exception of the Portal games I can’t stand when this happens.

I gotta admit that until release I knew nothing about the game (didn't even know it was a game, legit seemed like some abandonware WEG because the kid looked like an absolute nightmare goblin) outside of /v/ (hell be upon them) spamming UOHHHHHHHHHH CUNNAAEEE ToT at random intervals and my only takeaway was "looks like something Dayvid Cayge would make". Then it dropped and it's been genuinely the biggest opinion split since maybe 2016. People who I thought would hate with a passion defend it, and people who I thought would love it decry it as satan incarnate. Certified pedos aside (thanks for your insight EatDatCunny445 I REALLY needed your post on my "for you" timeline), the biggest factor influencing one's opinion on this seems to be... the presence of a father in their lives and/or being a present father yourself. Every nigger and single mom was universally trashing the game. People with their own, biological children and/or raised by caring fathers seem to praise it. Now that I know it's more akin to Bioshock 2 I'm not miffed by its existence at all. Yeah, sure, absolutely despicable degenerates cheer for it. That's the case for basically any media these days. The kid's appearance is whatever, because the engine they're using is fucking notorious for making humans look like awful silicon mannequins, which was evident in all the nu-Resident Evils.
Iunno. I'm not defending Capcom. Literally never bought anything they made or published. I'm not going to buy this either, because it's $60 and I won't even be able to run it (requires win11, fucking really?). But the shitstorm this game whipped up got me thinking. If anything it's going to cause a lot of mask and freudian slips.
 
By the way, none of this degenerate fandom is a new or ‘modern’ phenomenon. As an ancient gamer myself, I remember when ICO was released on the PS2 around 2001. It’s an early example of guiding a second character around a game, pre-dating Resident Evil 4.

Both protagonists are children (one is again an automaton/spirit, non-human), and the game does not sexualise them at all. However, game forums at the time featured plenty of fucking degenerates obsessed with the waif girl, feet, sexualised fan art etc.

This is one reason I’m skeptical that game devs ‘don’t realise what they are doing’. Capcom themselves have seen fan-art fir games like Darkstalkers/Vampire Saviour sexualise teenage sisters Morrigan and Lilith since 1999.

if anything he acts like a male idol of sorts, pretty interesting seeing his character with today's lenses (you can argue they did some of the things in order to avoid the backlash from having a faggot character like many fag defenders do even with documented and proved friendships between same sex people throughout history, lunacy i know), although crapcom probably made this character intentionally gay if you believe the leaked DEI shit files.

no, because if the game doesn't have anything weird in it, nor does it promote anything weird in it, its nothing, sure the social media shit around it is very suspect, but you have to give me something, anything that suggests the game or product itself is sezualizing kids, or else we are just full on crazy here.
