True, it's a shame they couldn't just make her look like a normal everyday human being you could encounter on the street like other Capcom characters such as Chris Redfield, Mega Man, or Dhalsim.

Haven't paid much attention to this game. Last I heard people were calling it a reimagining of Mega Man. Every clip of this "kid" that comes across my feed is just a little creepier than the last. Can't nail down if it's just the uncanny valley but my gut reaction watching this robot dance is "this is gross."

It does make one wonder, as an artist myself, how is the guy/troon that made and convinced capcom to do the stupid crying emoji feel right now, probably riling up themselves about doing the biggest shitstorm this game will ever rile up, specially since they will never ever want to aknowledge it was them.
 
Considering the trajectory of various Capcom artists they're probably very proud of themselves and going "it's just pixels, shouldn't you be worrying about real children?"

Considering they took the hyper-realism route like the recent RE games have had, Chris Redfield doesn't look unrealistic at all. The others are from stylized games that aren't realistic so feedback discarded.

It's obvious they're capable of designing somewhat natural faces for kids, look at Monster Hunter Wilds or Dragon's Dogma 2. They don't have to be mongoloid ugly to be realistic, but Diana is so far deep into the uncanny valley it's embarrassing.
