Pre-ordering vidya

I found Boogie's thoughts on this kind of interesting, he generally hates preordering because he'd rather people don't waste their money on possibly crappy games. He also notes that these days Vidya is closer to $90 up front to make, rather than $60 hence the sudden explosion of Day 1 DLC.

End of the day I think it's all about what you get out of it. For me? Gaming is my primary hobby and I love playing games. I love exploring the story and such.

I tend to preorder games if they're from developers I like or trust, or if the concept genuinely intrigues me. So for example I preordered both Rise of the Tomb Raider and The Division. I do it as a note of faith in the devs to give me something entertaining, which general rule of thumb is they do. I was very pleased by both and thus felt the money I handed over was justly spent. I also preordered the Vanishing of Ethan Carter because, again the concept intrigued and did not disappoint. Cities Skylines also fell to my pre-order bias and dear god was I glad.

One of the weird things I've found it I don't tend to come across the weird bugs a lot of folks do, dunno why. I'm either lucky as hell or one of the most boring vidya players in human history.

That being said, I can be a little more discerning when I need to be. I was sorely tempted to buy Arkham Knight on a preorder having massively enjoyed both City and Asylum. I'm very glad I chose to hold back and have yet to bother buying the game as WB has steadfastly refused to properly fix the damn thing. Other times this can fail miserably. I was stupid enough to pre-order Simcity. It was the last EA game I bothered with.

But like everyone else, I love me some steam sales. That tends to be when I experiment a bit more and buy stuff to see if a new genre or weird game may tickle my fancy. I found my love for "Walking Sims" started thanks to an impulse buy during a sale. Not looked back since.

I haven't done it for a while because the online retailers don't seem to send games out as early as they used to, nor are they as competitively priced in comparison to bricks and mortar retailers that I have easy access to. There were times when you could lock down a crazy price for something by having it preordered before they upped the price to be more in-line with competitors.
I got the collectors edition of Deus Ex: Human Revolution with the artbook and other stuff for £45 (rrp £70) and it got delivered two days early.

I'm savvy enough to avoid the absolute clangers, so I'm rarely disappointed with day one purchases. The only time I've really regretted blind purchasing something was Mercenaries: World in Flames.

The only time I ever pre-order is if:

A) It's an Atlus title or something that has limited release so I want to make sure I'm getting a copy.

B) It's something I was going to get no matter what anyway, like fucking Salt and Sanctuary.

Fuck Season Passes, though.
I'll wait and see if the shit comes out first (and if it's remotely worth my time or money).

I pre-order whenever they cut some content from the game and offer it as a pre-order incentive because I like to get the full gaming experience.

Unless you can get some discounts along with the bonuses there's really nothing good about preordering games especially if they're digital downloads. At least for physical copies it makes more sense to preorder since there's a chance for them to get sold out.

But for me, I'm not a fan of pre-ordering and haven't done it and most likely never will.

I took the bait and preorder Battlefleet Gothic for beta access. At least Steam let's you refund games and the beta has been fun so far, but honestly preorders seem like too huge a gamble for you average $60 game. At least the companies have gotten smart and started doing discounts till the release of the game so you can at least read some reviews and have a justification for preordering.

I used to pre-order games I'm really interested in when I was younger, but not so much now anymore.

Now-a-days, I simply wait for the reviews and see what they have to say about a game before I consider purchasing it.

The one recent exception however was via the Yooka-Laylee crowd funding project. I gave enough money so I can get a free copy of the game when it comes out.

Steam Refunds (for if it's garbage) + Pre-Order bonuses together make it not a bad idea. Though I usually only do it for games that I've been waiting for for a while or following during development.

I pre-ordered New Vegas at a Gamestop. Wanted the armor that was a reference to Fallout 1. I also made a pre-order on the PC version of Dragon's Dogma: Dark Arisen. Did it not just for the game but also for the artbook and the soundtrack.

I preorder games when it's a good deal. Amazon has some really great deals on pre-orders. 20% off? Hell yea.

You trollin bitch. Why pay people for shit they can't provide you immediately?

Never do that. Once they already have your money they have no motivation to make the product any better.

Dipshits like you are why there are so many shitty games released where only DLC can redeem it to the point it's playable.

Pre-ordering is against the will of Allah, and all offenders should either be killed or forced into sex slavery -- though if complications arise, believers are permitted both at once, and even necrophilia, on matters of such offense as this -- according to the will of the Prophet Muhammad, Peace be Upon Him, and Their Holiness and Excellencies Ayatollah Khomeini and Barack Hussein Obama.

Allahu Akbar, thus seethe the words of the exalted.

You get pre-order bonuses that you'd miss out on if you don't pre-order plus there's great discounts.

Yup- I pre-order games all the time because I enjoy wasting an extra 30-40 bucks so I can buy it day one instead of waiting a few months and getting it half off. Also, when I usually get these games, they usually just sit on my coffee table for a week or two before i get around to playing them. Sometimes I buy them two at a time so one always tends to get pushed to the wayside, never to be played until the game is usually $20 anyway.

Also, I like to pre-order games to continue to give the game publishing companies the wrong message so they will continue to try to extort money out of the players, continue to destroy smaller dev studios is the pursuit for more money, all the while making games for bland and generic.

I do this because secretly I hate the gaming community and nothing makes me feel like a big man than watching the futile wailing of gamer bros on the Youtube of how the game industry is doomed and their favorite franchises are now dumbed down for the casual player.

Nothing personnel, kid.

Ya I like pre-ordering games too.

Nowadays I pre-order all of my games, because lately I have little free time to do shopping and checking reviews.
Also, I'm expecting three or four titles this year, so it's not like I'm pre-ordering huge amounts of games.

I preordered Pokemon Heart Gold and got a Ho-Oh figurine because I'm really cool like that.

The law of my clan clearly state:

Still preordering here is almost impossible so i only buy online games with the help of some friends and family in the usa
