Predator 5 announced - Why can't they leave this fucking franchise just rest in peace?

This is the badass who is supposed to fight the Predator? This scrawny chick is supposed to compare to Arnold and Glover? Good God I need a stiff drink of firewater.

I've said it before but the whole premise sounds like some dumb coming-of-age teen drama rather than a Predator movie. This is the plot to a dumb teen/indie drama like Whale Rider rather than a Predator movie.

In a proper Predator movie the girl would be introduced as an established warrior in her tribe and it would seg-way into her and her band fighting the Predator. Predator 2 didn't spend anytime with Danny Glover bitching about racism in the LAPD, it started with him lining his car windows with bulletproof vests so he could shoot Colombian drug dealers and rescue some wounded cops in the middle of a firefight. The Predator series is not a series where racism and sexism are any part of it, women are accepted fighters alongside the men. In Predator 2 the lady cop is ready to shoot the Predator after he has torn the subway apart and the only reason she lives is because shes pregnant and the Predator has a code of honor not to harm the defenseless, if she hadn't been pregnant he probably would have torn her head off and made her skull into a trophy.

The guerilla girl from the first Predator and the Israeli sniper from Predators are treated as equals by their male counterparts. Even the mountain climber chick from Alien vs Predator gets respect from the men, the Predator makes a shield out of a Xenomorph head and gives her his spear to help him kick alien ass. The fact they are making this film "woke" shows they don't understand the Predator franchise which has already had individuals of every race and gender fight the Predator and work together despite their skin color and winding up as prey for the alien hunter. Billy from the first Predator was a Native American but he fought honorably and had his skull taken as a trophy because he chose to fight the Predator one on one. King Willlie was a black man but he fought the Predator in an honorable duel and had his skull taken as a trophy. Predators had a pretty kick-ass realistic kendo duel with katanas between a Japanese Yakuza man and a Predator and it was the best part of the movie. Point is that in trying to make the next Predator movie "woke' they are ignoring how progressive the franchise has been over the years where race and gender take a backseat to charismatic actors fighting an alien hunter.

You're assuming these people care about the efforts of those that came before them. I regret to inform you they don't.

The more I think about it, the more certain I am that this movie started out as a coming-of-age story about a native american fighting for recognition. Then someone said "We need a new script for Predator, the last one sucked, so go wild" and after some frantic scribbling, here we are.
If the movie has a title like "Predator: Vagoo Warrior Quest", you can bet your ass the title after the colon was the working title of that first script.

They don't know the original movies, most likely they are too "squicky" for their tastes. All they (believe to) know:

"Predator is about white dudebros and toxic masculinity, since it's a movie aimed at a purely male audience, therefore it containts gratuitous sex/objectification of women, is racist and bigotted and anyone who says otherwise is Hitler."

The sad thing is, I'm not even joking.

If we do have to have another Predator film, then set it in the past. A group of Samurai/Vikings/Romans/Knights/pirates go to raid an enemy settlement, find everyone already dead, have to fight the Predator(s) with only swords and arrows. And don't include a plot twist where one is an ancestor of an existing character.
That was one of the first ideas in this thread: make a movie about Spaniards going to South America and hunting down Aztecs for their gold. When the Predator starts hunting them, we get an inverse of the first half of the movie, where Spaniards were hunting technologically less sophisticated Aztecs. I still like that idea. Please, Hollywood, make that movie. No one cares about your phony hyprocrisy and it will never sell. Allow people who a) like the source material and b) don't look down on their own audiences. You'll be surprised how much money you can make by doing the unthinkable and actually make a product that your audiences want to watch.

Jarl Harrigan the blond, also known as Harrigan the blue-eyed, and Harrigan dude-are-you-like-an-albino-or-what.

Played by Idris Elba.

You have to be fucking kidding me! This shit again? Another Predator movie after the disaster of the last one only confirms that Hollywood just wants to continue losing money because they don't have a clue and would rather double down than admit they made a mistake. These creatively bankrupt faggots can't stop ass raping the corpse of dead franchises because they are incapable to create new concepts, it is sickening.

How are they even going to call this one? Consider how utterly retarded the naming convention for this franchise became after 2.

Predator > Predator 2 > Predators > The Predator > ???
Say Kee to Predators

Was I the only one that liked Predator 2 and Predators? And then they made those props for the latest film that imply AVP is still canon, but wisely didn't film them. Fuck movies.

Predator 2 is great. Fuckin' voodoo magic, man. Want some candy. A fucking alien. I don't think he gives a shit. Your move, pussy face.

Predators is alright. It tries not to be a retread of Predator but its attempts - different planet, more biggerer predators, etc. - are kind of superficial and gimmicky. Adrian Brodys growly alpha-T voice is more laughable than Christian Bales. Its biggest plus is that it isn't The Predator.

Given what kind of travesty the franchise has become (and is continuing to become), I have newfound love for Predators. My biggest gripe is that it felt to me like Brody is telling everyone how to do their job like they had no clue themselves... and even though the Russian guy went out in a blaze of glory, I think I just felt sorry he never did some crazy slav shit like using a Dragunov like an assault rifle and bash a Predator's head in with the buttstock.

It felt lackluster at times.... but lackluster still implies quality. Whatever skinwalker will be wearing the IP's carcass from then on will only start to rot and smell even more.

New Predator Possibly Heading Straight to Hulu

Last November, Predator fans were surprised to learn that a fifth film in the franchise was moving forward with 10 Cloverfield Lane director Dan Trachtenberg, but there might be more surprises in store for fans, with AvP Galaxy recently noting that a legal proceeding might have revealed that the film could be going straight to Hulu. The site claims that, during legal discussions regarding the rights to the Predator franchise, it was revealed that the upcoming film would be distributed by Hulu, potentially confirming that the film could be a Hulu exclusive. Given that the production is in relatively early stages, a lot can change in the coming months, though some fans would surely be disappointed if the film never made its way to the big screen.

Interestingly, it sounds like the plan for the upcoming sequel was to borrow a page from Trachtenberg's Cloverfield playbook to keep as much of the film a mystery as possible. That film, for example, was shot outside of the public eye, only earning one trailer two months ahead of its release, leaving audiences to speculate about how it connected to the 2008 Cloverfield. In fact, when news of this sequel emerged, Trachtenberg took to social media to confirm he had hoped to keep the project a secret.

"This was meant to be a surprise. Been working on this for almost 4 years now," Trachtenberg shared on Twitter. "I am very sad that what we had in store for how you could discover this movie will no longer happen. It’s a bummer. But also...YAY!"

At the time, Trachtenberg had been developing a film known as "Skulls" from a script by Patrick Aison, with the announcement of a Predator 5 confirming Skulls was actually a way to disguise the attention that would have rightfully been paid to a new Predator. This most recent update about the project could confirm that, much like how The Cloverfield Paradox landed on Netflix just hours after its first trailer debuted, the plan all along was to develop and shoot a new Predator and secretly unveil it to audiences who weren't expecting it.

The last film in the franchise, 2018's The Predator, was intended to revive interest in the iconic sci-fi series, only to suffer poor critical and box office reactions.

Stay tuned for details on the new Predator.

So seems like a prequel, not going to lie I don't hate the sound of the movie, but I know the gender stuff will be very hamfisted and the action will likely be bad as well.

Remember when "straight to video" was a tacit admission that a film was absolute dogshit?
Kiwi Farms remembers.

So any progress on the next upcoming shitshow (as in leaks and shit like the PPG reboot show)? I have the popcorn, but its getting stale at some point.

I personally prefer Predators over P2, mainly because of some new tidbits of lore on the Yautja like having Bad Blood Clans that were seen as heretics over the usual hunter types. P2 was trying to recapture the first film but in a city setting, as opposed to the jungle, not much effort, aside from ham.

I like P2 over Predators solely due to Danny Glover and Gary Busey. The city setting was also cool and I dug the whole "Predators have been coming here for centuries" lore when they gave Danny Glover's character that flintlock pistol.

It was also just a total product of the time and felt like a live action comic book to me, so I can see how others might not like it as much. I still enjoyed Predators a lot though as just a dumb action romp as another excuse to show the Yautja kicking ass. Didn't really like how fat and old Lawrence Fishbourne looked in it but that's gonna happen to us all eventually. The less said about the next sequel though, the better.
