Predator: Hunting Grounds - Asymmetric Predator game from the makers of Friday the 13th: the Game

There's no question whether this will be shit. It's proven by now that asymmetric multiplayer games are short-lived novelties at best and we're talking about a developer whose biggest hits are Sonic Boom: Rise of Lyric and Star Citizen.

Yet Dead by Daylight continues to be successful for some reason. Why, I have no fucking clue.

Do people even want a Predator-style game anymore? People have been playing "The Hidden: Source" for more than 15 years, and I think they would be burned out by now.

Fuck yeah, they do. I never even heard of The Hidden: Source. I doubt there's that many people playing that mod, no offense. It's just a shame that Illfonic of all devs is doing a game with this concept.

All those big Youtubers used to play it in the old days, it was kind of a big deal.

Bump.

Graphics are sub-par. This footage has frame-rate issues which by the way PLAGUED Friday the 13th: The Game. You would need an absolutely beastly PC to run F13 at 60 FPS even on low settings. The console versions ran around 20-30 FPS tops. Not sure why you play the Predator from a 3rd person perspective whereas humans play in 1st person. A little odd but I don't mind it because the Predator needs that peripheral vision. No idea what to think of what looks like bots that the humans and Predator players can fight.

It's a very underwhelming reveal. As expected from the complete reatards at Illfonic.

I played a bit of F13 the Game and I wasn't really impressed. It was buggy to fuck, there was more griefing than playing in the game because the game itself was so boring that people felt the need to grief to have some form of fun, that mechanic where you could hide under a bed or in a cabinet was completely fucking useless because even if you hid, there's still a nuclear red glow on the house you're hiding in, and even when you actually wanted to play the game seriously, the games are easily sabotaged by the one token asshole who goes around killing their fellow survivors. To top it off, the game wasn't scary.
Dead By Daylight isn't perfect but it's still quite a step up and the frequent updates at least show that the devs haven't abandoned the game altogether like these guys apparently did. I feel really bad for the people that sunk so much money crowdfunding that hot garbage.

DbD is a shit show but it's less of a shit show when compared to the competition. There's a fuckload of BTS bullshit with Illfonic and their handling of F13.

Some things I am noticing from the trailer. Obviously the Predator is gonna be the main focus of the Predator game cuz duh, but it does look to me like the human players were an afterthought, like they're the designated jobbers for the Predator player to bop for fun. They seem to have no gadgets, or gear to counter the predator or his abilities, even to the point where the reload and weapon animations look meh 2007 cod tier.

Like I said I get the Predator is gonna be the focus of a Predator game but if you don't put enough effort into the humans and make them an afterthought they are gonna suck to play as. Give them bear traps, ink/paint marking tools, UAVs, maybe a laser sight that would help identify an invisible predator, etc. It would help feed into the escalation of arms race of factions that helps give a sense of progression and power. Also this is a side thing to the game but IR stuff is very common now irl. Its not uncommon for special forces to have FLIR and such support. Be it helmet mounted or on an above drone. How do predators in most of the settings cloak from that in universe or is that never brought up?

It's a genius idea for a game, very unfortunate that it was grabbed by useless douchebags who can't make good games.

It was already kind of done in the AvP games for PC.

You could setup matches in AvP 1 (or AvP Classic 2000 as it's now known on Steam) and just have a team of Marines versus one Pred. AvP 2 by Monolith was very friendly to modding. Only difference is that those games weren't dedicated to the idea of an asymmetric experience.

Not balanced at all but very fun games. Sadly, those days of big games like that having mod tools and shit are long since over.

Yeah, AvP had serious restraints on the preds to balance them out for even teams, it wasn't balanced one bit for a 1v4. It was still a fantastic game, I loved playing it with friends back in the day.

That's another problem with this new one, it showed the predator just face tanking a bunch of bullets on the way to stab a guy. That's just wrong.

Depended on the game. Rebellion LOVES the Predator and that's why in AvP 1 Predator was very overpowered in multiplayer because I think he started with all of his weapons. The disc could insta-kill and so could the speargun. It's also why the Predator campaign was the best campaign in the 2010 AvP or AvP 3.

In Monolith's AvP 2 Marine was OP but as Predator you could use a class that had the disc and could insta-kill each other back and fourth. With a little refinement it could have been balanced. But there were mods that did that as well. A lot of people complained when the Primal Hunt expansion pack happened that in multiplayer they added the ability to turn into a Queen for the Alien, the ability to ride the mecha for Marines, and... Nothing for Predator players.

I guarantee this will have the exact same problem as other Asymmetric titles where a coordinated group on coms can destroy the Killer or Predator.

Also, there's crossplay between PS4 and Epic Store which is something. I still think this will bomb pretty hard.

I played it today, it was pretty fun actually. I hope it does ok.

It's poorly optimized on PC as well. There's weird input delay too. Not sure how crossplay is working if, presumably, the game is running at 30FPS on PS4 and 60 on PC.
