It's a discussion forum. This is not an issue. There's multiple off-topic boards and I'd like to see those grow so the site has some stability and activity even if we're in a slump content wise.

Edit: I think that if people feel they can't talk conversationally on the main off-topic boards, I'm doing something really wrong and I'd like to see how it can be loosened up.
Maybe sub-threads, sort of like how in discord, long reply chains can be turned into a thread within a channel? That way people can collapse the discussions they aren't interested in.
Here's what I'm envisioning:
- Encourage people to actually reply to and quote posts in a discussion
- Have a simple button to hide posts in a reply chain, exempt posts that reply to multiple chains

It's the forum's culture, man. We shitpost about how terrible shit is without fear of being judged and we talk about normal crap in private....And to laugh at how desperate women like Peggy are.

It ain't that hard to figure out.

Some things are best discussed in the privacy that only a Conversation can afford. Sometimes wanna just talk about something without certain people shitting it up, or turning it into ERP. Especially when you're in a minority group such as furries.

It'd be nice if the thread controls actually worked, ie. can stop people from adding other people, OP can have janitorial power such as removing or banning people, deleting unwanted disruption, etc.

I agree the people making 10000 member Conversations aren't doing anyone any good. I just leave those if I don't see anything interesting.

If you're in a big DM you actually value, I'd like people to move it to a thread, and if there's some reason why that's not viable I'd be interested in hearing it.
I actually think it has a lot to do with the way notifications work. DMs show up under the envelope icon so they're segregated out, whereas threads just show up under the bell and blend in with the rest of gen pop. This makes (some) people pay attention to DMs way more, with makes them proceed at a rapid clip.

I will either click the LEAVE button or ignore the DM like a grown adult, I do not want to bother KiwiFarms staff with petty problems like a whiny bitch.
This. I don't understand the people screeching and crying about dm's. Just leave if it bothers you so much or just ignore the notifications. It's not like there's anyone with a gun to anyone's head forcing them to click and read the dms.

I mean null isn’t really banning DMs entirely he just wants the faggots to stop making so many and inviting randoms

Its ironic that meta is fucked right now, because i feel it bears mentioning that some ppl use the farms like social media.

@Begemot Your services are required.

If I'd wager a guess it's because:
a) hidden
b) has no impact on your updoots, so some people will choose to engage in those convos way more
Personally, that never was a factor to me. Maybe to other people, but to me, it just felt more conversational.

And less political. Most wouldn't engage when it got brought up and a few users started actively reminding people to keep it chill.
