Project Zomboid - The farming simulator disguised as a zombie survival game

41 is out. Can't really tell what they've changed yet, besides foraging. The foraging changes are pretty good though.
On their site they outlined all the stuff they have done, but the most recent to b41 is the foraging and Louisville & Mall to the east of West Point.

They fucked up sledgehammer spawn rate, apparently its 1/1000 chance to spawn as a tool. Entire map on MP been scavenged; all the major storage locations along of tons of garages in West Point and Muldraugh, but not even a single fucking one; to compare you could get 1-2 easily from a single storage location. No luck with the 'manhole' random set pieces - they mostly had pickaxes. Ended up spawning one because it's just bullshit to make bases without one and you can't loot that sweet gun store without it.

There were some changes to the firearms as well; magazine weapons like pistols or rifles are less painful to use as if you don't have any spare magazines to load, the player's character is gonna grab an empty magazine now and load it with rounds. Though, something 's strange too with ammo chance spawn rate and weapons; they appear far less common in households' cupboards or nightstands like they used to be. They also got rid of the spawn chance of a shotgun in bars and taverns, I've only seen baseball bats sometimes but those are garbage. :heart-empty: Use axes though, they are beyond busted in combat; reaching 4 or 5 axe skill will result in a high chance of one-shotting zombies with a fire axe and even then the hand axe is a good fallback weapon. Others have commended short blunt like nightsticks or hammers which are abundant.

The best bet to find police blockade and loot the police car's trunks, kill the police zombies or raid the police stations in Muldraugh, West Point and Rosewood. I never been to military base/secret base yet so I don't really know what kind of the loot is there, but apparently M16 is in the game and it uses its own 5.56mm rounds rather try to merge either waywith .223 which already exists in the game and is used for a mediocre rifle. Which speaking of, the police cruiser is the best car in the entire fucking game and sports cars are not even close to being as fast as it is.

Don't use noisemaker unless you value your ears - they seem to run infinitely, zombies don't react to them and sounds get stuck. I tried picking it up and throwing it again but ended up doubling the noise and earraping everybody in the area. This seems apparent with some sounds, they used to loop endlessly on MP but they more or less fixed it within few days of the beta MP release.

Exercising is dumb and you shouldn't waste your time on it honestly, I somehow managed to break the pain barrier on MP and I could exercise as much as I wanted provided I didn't get tired, and after 24h in game of exercising I barely got 1k XP done at 70% regularity. It's a chore to level up strength/athletics because default XP is busted - at 9-10 skills you probably need at best iirc 10k while at going from 4 to 5 athletics you need around 18k XP, both still take years to do so I'd suggest making changes to XP modifiers.

Visibility issues still persist i.e. hordes hiding behind a single bush, zombies appearing out of nowhere or just being silent contribute to rage factor when you get bitten or mauled to death.

Despite all the bitching, it is worth playing it especially with friends, if you are a cheapskate you can always use the Steam Play feature to splitscreen or just sail upon the high seas and host a dedicated server.

I've also put in a bunch of time the past week, all single player though. The in game map is extremely useful and actually makes marking things meaningful, only thing I wish they did was give you the option to pull annotations off of dropped maps onto your personal one. Exploring feels better in general too thanks to it, I liked what they were going for with the map items where it is meant to be you using buildings and streets as reference points but you still missed out on 90% of the map. Knowing what areas I haven't been to and seeing the map fill out give a good sense of progress. Haven't used foraging too much but the update to it at least seems to make it more involved than another sit down and watch this gauge, I have read some rough stories of people not finding rocks and stuff like that though.

Louisville has been great to explore just due to the size of it and how many different types of places there are compared to the other towns. With the other towns you were almost guaranteed to have to drive out of your starting city within a month for something, Louisville turns it into a much more contained action oriented experience though because of how abundant supplies and zombies are. I would definitely recommend a mod for Louisville spawns and just having a go with that if you're getting back into the game, gives it a very fresh experience with some of the best the game has to offer. 2022 could be a great year for them but given their track record they'll probably squander it have another huge period in between updates.

release b41 and iwbums b41 are the same except for some slight changes , i think headlights a tad bit brighter now.
PVP autism is gonna be unfun imho but coop seems like it will be a blast
PVP fags taint most stuff they touch , expect most weapons and armor mods to get blasted with comments about how "unbalanced" it is and pvp fags clogging up the workshop with modpacks and mods that change 2 numbers.

personally im excited for RP servers to start popping up over time , the idea of RPing as a cop or something sounds cool to me.

Got build 41 recently, loaded it with some mods and have been enjoying myself. First thing I did was haul ass to my usual house that I've dutifully used as a safehouse since my first playthrough. To my immense pleasure I managed to get a housekey for it from a zombie inside, as well as keys to a neighboring house from a zombie in there as well.
Just down the street was a cop car, and in the house was a cop's corpse and another cop who had turned. I cleared the house with my baseball bat and one of the cops had a key to the squad car on him, as well as a gun and a holster (but no ammo), and the squad car had a bulletproof vest, a rifle, and ammo for said rifle in the trunk.

Already off to a helluva start.

cop cars are great for farming ammo , can be a bitch though to find a good gun like a shotgun, Personally i play with britas weapon pack and i like its variety but i need to tweak the settings more to make everything feel right.

My routine at the start is to: Find a car , find a welder mask and propane torch , find a good place to base , stock up on metal sheets and nails , spend a few days fortifying my base , and then at this point i go and try and find a sledgehammer or get a key off a zombie in a police station.

Sledgehammer is only useful in base building or destroying the metal bars off the gun store because there is no other way in. You can break down police station doors easily just by hitting them with axes/handaxes/crowbars etc. Same goes for garage doors - even when it does not look like you can break those with just a 1-hand melee.

Just got into a new run. Only mod is a "Choose your Spawn Point". Went with Kate and Baldspot's house, . Got the place double barricaded and the cupboards stuffed with canned food and the fridge with pots of stew and pans of stir fry. No guns, but all the shovels and pickaxes (thank you warehouse to the north) I could ever need and a couple hand axes for the carpentry needs. Sorely lacking in medical supplies though, closest thing I have to painkillers is a few cans of beer and I have zero antiseptic.

I recently just purchased and have been having a great time yelling at my computer. Can't wait for solid multiplayer.

Just make the spawn point the middle of the baseball field in Louisville
Insane zombie pop and sprinters too, make the fuckers fight to survive

update on that modder i talked about nearly a year ago, they got hired by indie stone and are a official team member now, oh and indie stone hired a modder who was making a promising NPC mod and had him kill the mod off early.

I am reviving this thread because I recently acquired the game.

I have to say I have very mixed feelings. I love the survival and scavenging aspects. I like most of the game in fact.

However, I hate that I can't (apparently) save whenever I want. That fact and the relative difficulty makes learning the game a chore. I am also one who doesn't like rogue-likes due to total progression loss mechanics either. While PZ isn't quite like that, it can still be damn brutal.

I have yet to try the multiplayer, I hear that it is pretty good, better than playing alone.
___
If there are any mods outs there that can give me my damn manual saves, I would be indebted to the person who gave me a name and link.

The modding scene of the game seems pretty good in general. If any of you have mods you want to recommend, please go ahead and post them.

Mod Manager is a must have for modding, it makes the base game mod manager actually good. As for mods i think are good i really like, Vanilla Firearms Expansion is good, I really like Smoker, really anything in the most popular mods is worth a download. Sadly there is no mod for making manual saves, you could do it the hard way and back up saves manually but thats your only real option.

I remember one anon from /pzg/ sharing some .bat files he created for manually copying, pasting and deleting your saves for quick and easy savescum. I guess you could get that as a half measure. I don't remember when it was shared, but I'm certain he wasn't the only one who came up with it, so it shouldn't be that hard to find.

One fun thing you can do if you're still learning the game is to create multiple characters on the same map and share shit between them. You can just roll up a farming autist or whatever instead of sitting there reading books for days.

Switching characters does seem to reset your panic resistance though but it's not a huge deal.

Wait you can do that?

Thank you for the recommendation. I have been doing a fair bit of mod hunting and collection diving, and finding the dependencies would be hell without it. I'll grab Vanilla Firearms Expansion in a bit. Got Smoker, I don't need a lighter, and autosmoke, as well.

Yeah, click the More... button on the load game screen and you can make a new survivor on the same map.

Very few people know about this for whatever reason.
That is very interesting. I'll have to try that. I assume that your other survivors despawn while you are playing one?

post your character's drip
