Proton Mail sucks now

  • 🔧 At about Midnight EST I am going to completely fuck up the site trying to fix something.
Is there a known issue getting emails from KF to cock.li? I tried switching my email here to that domain and it wouldn't get the confirmation email even after multiple resends, whereas some random temp email got it instantly.
i had the same issue. i never did get a confirmation mail to my cock.li account. ended up making a proton account to use instead.

That's odd. Have you checked settings? I registered here with an account and have had no problems receiving emails.

In my experience they are worse, but still usable for making extra emails for confirmations... I've done so in the last month, unless this is a VERY recent change. The downside is you have to make the email a few days in advance because if you send it a 3rd party request right after creation it'll call you spam and make you verify somehow. I have a couple I made just to sit there and not be marked as spam when I need them.

Why are so many making multiple protonmail accounts? They provide an email forwarding service through simplelogin that negates the need for multiple accounts
I think they limit the number of forwarding aliases free users can create. I made a new protonmail account for this site to reduce the number of ways this account and ones related to it can be linked to any others I hold. I didn't run into problems with stuff like github verifications back then, but this would have been a little over a year ago.

I don't 100% trust the alias addresses to protect my privacy (this is especially true if you're someone a government doesn't like), but they're great for reducing spam and limiting data brokers' ability to track you. Additionally, some sites (like github, funnily enough) will flag your account as spam if it uses one of those forwarding addresses. They're easy to spot because they use a special domain like passmail.net.

Had the same problem just now.

I also tried making a new Protonmail account but like OP it was asking me for verification. I only tried this once, but maybe the VPN IP I was using had been flagged for abuse or something. Thing is, this VPN I'm using is also Proton.

Granted I'm not very savvy with this stuff, but I've found it increasingly difficult to create throwaway E-mail accounts recently. Depending on what IP address I'm using, Gmail usually (but not always) asks for SMS verification, and with Outlook the actual homepage will sometimes just not load. With Tutanota I always get "this IP has been flagged for abuse".

EDIT - also Outlook will block your account pretty quickly if you try accessing it from too many different IP addresses.

Not surprising, even if you're using a premium server of theirs. If they truly don't keep any logs, they can't really hold any bad actors that use their service accountable.

Proton Mail's privacy is a gimmick. They don't let you add filters or set up mail forwarding without paying. What a fucking rip-off.
If your not paying them then how is it a rip-off?
If you just need throw away emails then just use cock.li. They have more then the one domain.

I have made countless gmail account for this exact reason and they never asked me for anything, made them through app store on Android
Same here, but keep in mind if you use an Android phone to make a Gmail account via app, Google will collect the hardware information of your phone for security purposes (Apple does this too with iCloud emails). So I hope you used a burner phone paid in cash if it's anything really private.

Even just in general. I understand having a real e-mail and a junk e-mail, maybe a work e-mail, but I don't understand this obsession with creating dozens of burners a week. What are people doing with them? Given the current state of websites, and the circular sign up process where you need an e-mail to create an e-mail, sites should just go back to the old username and password system.

My problem is the opposite. I just want a simple, convenient e-mail to tie things like my Steam account to. Yet companies keep adding more and more verification and enshitification.
