Yes he is
No the Japanese branch of Sony itself has been very much more aggressive in tying together and cross pollenating it's different branches since Yoshida took over.I was thinking of Shuhei Yoshida who was CEO of SIE Worldwide Studios until 2018 with the guy from Guerilla Games taking his place. Hence the confusion.
That said Playstation is directly controlled by the american branch (SIE), that's an undeniable fact proven above. Sony Japan is still its own thing but they no longer own the PS brand
This is about the PS4 and it turning into a brick for trophy data. They just needed to patch it that it would not entirely brick the console just to check for trophies. Not really, network workarounds already exist and have been documented. The Archstones which is a fan run Demon's Souls server and Gonespy(which is what the defunct games on Gamespy's network use) gets around the PSN network without any outside modifications. Worst case scenario is that you have to emulate a webpage and have the PS3 connect to it by changing the internet settings.
People also already use programs like Charles to force downgrade digital games. This requires zero firmware fuckery with the console itself.
Yeah that's the one good thing is that the DIGITAL IS THE FUTURE people got the wind taken out of their sails.Well this is a huge relief. Even outside the all-important games preservation discussion this topic brought to the table, I'm just glad I'm given more time to enjoy the PS3's store. There are still plenty of games I want to get around to playing in the future. At the same time this did basically expose how easy it is to just shut everything down, and there will be a time when Sony goes ahead and pulls the plug.
My train of thought out of this is that it's probably just a PR stunt move after all the shit like the TloU remake, the death of Japan Studio, Days Gone sequel and the PS3/PS4 CMOS thing, and so on that were piling up very quickly since last month to the point that even the Sony-biased game journalists couldn't even ignore anymore. This is an attempt to win back the fans but I hope nobody is foolish enough to fall for this.Well this is a huge relief. The only message these people hear is the sound of a pen writing a name on a check.Gotta say, it's pretty funny seeing the same Sony shills who were screeching "Who cares about playing old games, just play your new $70 third person walking simulators and be happy" now turning around and applauding this. Reminds me of how MS backtracked their insane 100% price increase for online play earlier this year. This is why being a fanboy of any company is fucking retarded, they don't care about you and it always bites you in the ass.
I also think it's funny how they had Jim Ryan put out this article, the guy most famous for shitting on backwards compatibility. I'd like to think the message is getting through to them, but that's probably just wishful thinking.
No they simply wanted to shut down the store because the network is old and unreliable but it's also heavily tied to the PS Now and streaming stuff so it was not as cost effective as originally imagined. It got too close to fucking with their bread and butter so they backed off on shutting it down because it would screw with too many things. the problem with much modern tech is that many things are black box or too unwieldly to figure out fully because the staff who originally put stuff in may not be around at the company anymore. As a business once you have something in place and it generates an income flow you tend to just leave it alone and not touch it unless it breaks. There are also multiple reports of games recently missing on the Vita and PS3 PSN stores (such as Dungeon Travelers for Vita gone apparently but don't take my word for it), so again it's highly likely Sony will shut them down in the near future but more quietly next time. Old PS webstore is still kill, even the alternate links no longer work as Sony recently deleted the access for good without any fanfare.
The Sony cult is the most annoying religion out there.Gotta say, it's pretty funny seeing the same Sony shills who were screeching "Who cares about playing old games, just play your new $70 third person walking simulators and be happy" now turning around and applauding this. Wow.
It won't matter if they get rid of Jim Ryan or not. Their whole end game is to have huge IPs that span all forms of media. If they get rid of Jim Ryan they'll just replace him with another yes man. The people wishing for Sony to be lead by Japan are getting their wish because Yoshida is the one who's trying to get rid of any excess because their ventures going forward are going to be very expensive.Time for all the general public to forget about what sony tried to do and a couple years from now they will try it again. Jim Ryan really needs to go. It really does not cost sony much to keep these servers up.
I'm notI'm very glad they reversed that decision.
