PS3, Vita, And PSP Stores To Be Permanently Closed In A Few Months - fuck game preservation lol - Sony

Off topic, but currently Persona 4 Golden is currently one of the more expensive physical copies for the Vita. Some cost between $65-$90. I’m thankful that emulation for the PS3, PSP and PS Vita is a thing, but if you’re a physical game collector, it looks like you’re going to have to (eventually) find some new alternatives.

PSP game contents should be relatively fine since I recall they were all well archived already, but a lot of PS3 and Vita stuff (in different regions) are still missing in the NPS database and that's going to be a problem for sharing in the future.

Wouldn't surprise me if this is another attempt from SIE California to kill off everything that belonged to the old Sony Japan so that people forget in the future about the japanese roots of Playstation

I was lucky and got a new copy about..7 years ago or 8, and GS sold it for at least $35

I too remember that at my local GameStop it was $35. I made the mistake at not getting it at the time because I picked up Terraria instead of that. I mistakenly was one of those people that thought you had to play the Persona games in chronological order.

Where i fucked up was not saving up for the Danganronpa games, they're still the most expensive vita games out. From my recollection, its never dropped and if so, by like a measely 2 dollars or something

What games are on PS3 and Vita PSN that are worth getting?

The only PS3 PSN game I've been meaning to pick up but haven't is Tokyo Jungle, which I was hyped for back since it was Japan only. It disappeared into the backlog and I never got around to playing it.

I made a PSN US account to get Parasite Eve and the US version of Parasite Eve 2 (which runs faster) years ago. Emulation is good now, so I'm not concerned about PS1 games much, but never found any US only games I was willing to pay the price for. The only one I can think of is annual NASCAR and base ball games.

For Vita, I was tempted to get Killzone Mercenary because collectors drove up physical prices and local places don't stock Vita games (the few that I've seen are in terrible condition).

there's no evidence at this point that they're going to do this. [...] Sony has said nothing on closing the PS3 or Vita stores for the consoles
That's true. We'll have to wait for the official announcement at the end of the month to see if the writer's "verified source" was right. Though it could be a nothingburger like the MGS remasters/Silent Hills rumors that circulated before E3
Now the old desktop store supposedly went away last year, but no you can still access it and use it.
I remember getting an email from PSN in October saying PS3, PSP and Vita purchases will no longer be available on the app and desktop stores, but they'd still be available on PS3. When I first skimmed thru it I thought the app and desktop site would go away, maybe we're talking about the same thing? Here's a screenshot of that email.

If you don't have muramasa rebirth for vita, i recommend that one definitely. The DLCs are really good too

EDF 2017 Portable and EDF Invaders from Outer Space
Odin's Sphere Leifthrasir
Dragon's Crown
Muramasa Rebirth
Catherine Fullbody (i think it got an english fanpatch - requires a hacked vita however)
Deception 4 Nightmare Princess
Gravity Rush
Soul Sacrifice Delta (it sadly needs an Online Pass, which cannot be pirated, in order to unlock the free content updates)
Edit: Forgot about Shinobido 2

And if you aren't shy on the full-blown japanese shit, I could also recommend Utawarerumono, IA/VT Colorful, Taiko Tatsujin, Digimon Cyber Sleuth, Disgaea, Atelier, etc.

Yep we are talking about the same thing and it still can be accessed and you can buy stuff off it. I just used the Desktop browser version to hoard all the 500+ free avatars the other week.

Dragon's Crown has the PS4 version and it shares the same trophy lists and has cross play
Gravity Rush is also on PS4
Odin's Sphere is also on PS4
Deception is on PS4
Cybersleuth is on PS4
All 4 Utawererumono games are on PS4
Disgaea 3 is the only vita one with an enhanced version that hasn't been ported yet. Disgaea 2's enhanced version never made it to PS3 or PS4 despite being a PSP game. 4's enhanced version just recently got a port last year, and Disgaea D2 is still only on the PS3.
All the PS3 and PSVita Atelier games have enhanced ports on PS4 but they're currently all digital.

Are you seriously autistic?

Only collectors or fools are paying that much for physical. Most Ps Vita games are now worth over what they were at retail.

P4G frequently went on sale on PSN in the $5-10 range for years. If someone legitimately wants to play the games, look up cracking tutorials and use No Pay Staytation to get whichever game you want. They play exactly as they do if downloaded PSN store. I’ve said this many times on the board, your consoles will become Swiss Army knives. You can even get trophies without worry of a ban. Sony only cares about cracked Ps4’s and 5’s these days.
The only problem regarding the vita is finding the scam Micro SD’s for a good price

Well we're talking about stuff that has zero other versions or crossbuy in the west and would be the most affected by any type of shutdown.

Vita has games like Tales of Hearts R and Severed which have not been ported to anything else on consoles be it physical or digital. You also have ones like Tokyo Abyss and Dungeon Travelers 2 which don't have ports, however other ones like Stranger in Sword City is getting an enhanced port later this year and there's Archive collections that NIS is releasing for the Switch and PS5. Thus far the archive collections are ones that NIS developed themselves but they still have publishing rights to stuff that's still last gen and prior. You have even lesser known shit like Fallen Legion which have different main characters depending on if you got it for Vita or PS4.

@Judge Dredd was asking for games to enjoy on PS3 and/or Vita, not your autism over what are the exclusives or not. I have some of those games I've listed on PC and Switch but they're still virtually no different on Vita.

He's free to buy them too but considering legit digital purchases on the PS3 will only be usable until the internal clock battery dies (which is also a thing on PS4 and I wouldn't doubt that's the case on Vita as well), it would be a waste to not just outright hack the systems and sail the seas instead.

Many consoles have some sort of flaw like that though, that's not unheard of. It's why people keep saying to buy physical. Capacitors and batteries tend to be replaced and repaired, the PS3 isn't the first one like that nor is it going to be the last.

Would this affect PSNow with streaming PS3 games on PS4/PS5?

no one's gonna know till the official statement, for now it's just talking about those stores. sony already removed those systems from the store for normalfags (there are ways around it, but most won't know or care), which would mean the only way for those to buy ps3/psv/psp games was via the systems itself - and I don't see that to be a large number.

if they make it unable to download your purchased games (which isn't the same) it just requires someone to be pissed off enough to drag them in front of a court, which depending how it goes can have widespread effects on digital distribution as a whole, which, if they have an ounce of common sense try to avoid and rather pay the peanuts to keep that service running on some rack in the far corner of the server farm.
but then, this is sony we're talking about, so..

You know if this is true and it shits the bed, it finally brings all digital's weakness to the front of the public's mind I'm fine with that.

Nobody cared when the OG xbox's store died and people lost their purchases, nobody cared when the wii store died. If this is what does it, it could mean a course correction for the industry.

The one thing they shouldn't make a big deal about is the CMOS battery, that won't be an issue because they're cheap and readily available, a ton of devices use them. But going the route of user software rights and how people need to be able to archive and back up their shit legally without fear of repercussion, that would be huge.

For one thing it could end always online microtransaction bullshit. Think of all the parents that will finally realize how Fortnite is a black hole and their kids actually aren't buying shit. Hell it could even be a major return of private run servers and lobbies for online games.

This is ultimately the problem. Most normies don't care. I grew up renting from Blockbuster because games were expensive. Once the rental market collapsed, the used market exploded. I've known people who only have a half dozen games at a time. Mostly they buy a game, play it until they've beaten it or got board, then sold it for store credit to get the next game.

For normies to care, it would have be something big like Steam or i-tunes going under in spectacular fashion. Or it will be something that happens 40 years from now when something important is lost or there's a gap in gaming history so large even normies can't ignore it. Like an entire console library disappearing.
