Psychonauts 2 will feature an invincibility toggle to enable "all ages, all possible needs" to enjoy the game - Game journalist mode ahoy!

If you thought Psychonauts 2 wasn't easy enough, Double Fine is adding an unlockable that will help point out collectibles in the world.

So basically, all you have to do is go through the story and there you go.
tbf, this is to address two problems with the game, both of which I encountered:

1: The figments collecting, which are translucent, 2d scribble-like collectables that are an absolute pain in the ass to track down. There's hundreds or more in each world, and basically any 100% run will come down to exhaustively scouring each area for one figment sitting in the fronds of a palm tree or something. When I couldn't find figments, I had to look at someone's complete collection, determine which one I was missing, and (if it wasn't obvious from the figment's design where to go) then watch a 100% run like a hawk to spot when they pick up that figment. Even in the 100% runs, they edit in segments to pick up figments they missed.

This system didn't need to have a unique item just for it, the thing about ticking off areas already completed would solve a significant amount of the issues alone.

This was a problem in the first game as well, that a lot of people validly cited as a problem. The fact that they didn't implement this day 1 but implement an easy modo tells me schafer thinks it's a better experience to scour every fucking level empty of nearly all life and movement for the fourth time for one coconut scribble than to die to a lightbulb-vomiting rabbit, and I really don't know what to say to that.

2: Two optional and missable achievements based on miniboss enemies, that stop spawning anywhere once the game ends. These were mostly meant to be little tricks players could do, and weren't meant to be missable - they commented on only one achievement being missable, and it's right at the start of the game. But they were wrong about that, so this is to fix that.

If they added these when the game came out, my finishing thoughts would have been along the lines of "Nice, I 100%ed this game pretty easily by being dedicated" rather than "god damnit, even though I got all the damn fucking figments, I'm gonna have to play through half the game to listen to jack black get bored of his own panic attack again"

Say you're a new player with this update, can you get around with those two missables in a new game?

Also, I hate when games add missables when you progress. It should be the other way around.

what do you mean by get around?

They're just two minor achievements, they don't unlock anything else if that's what you mean.

Unless I'm doing it wrong because I only tried it quickly, the collectable finder isn't even that useful. You have to stop, get the camera out, change the filter and look around, with the indicators vanishing once you put the camera away.

Does this new update "remind" the player of those achievements?
still don't know what you mean, so i did my best to answer generally.

when i hopped in after installing the update, i got this:

And it's unlocked a new filter in the shop, which is a section I never touched in the entire game.

I tried asking Otto, the lab guy, but all this really did was inform me there was a mildly amusing conversation I missed.

The one for missable achievements is just up on a random ledge above him, with an aggressive lack of fanfare.

This is a device that leads you to three combat arenas in one of the sidequests. they're not too bad normally, even less so when you're level 102 and can spam your abilities.

For some fucking reason, though, they decided that rather than just put you in one fight with both enemies in different waves, they put you in three fights, the first of which has neither of the two important minibosses! I mean, maybe they're just recycling the arena waves, but it's so dumb!
