Secretary of State Alexi Giannoulias said public submissions for a new design will be accepted starting Tuesday.

Ten of those designs will be selected.

After a public feedback period, the general assembly will decide whether to adopt a new flag or keep the current one.

Visit www.ilsos.gov or submit designs via mail addressed to Illinois Flag Commission, Howlett Building, Room 476, 501 S. Second St., Springfield, IL 62756.

Minnesota unveiled its new flag in December 2023, using a similar method to the one adopted by Illinois, a news release from Giannoulias' office Wednesday said. Both Michigan and Maine are also considering an official change in their state flags, the release said.

What the heck is wrong with the old one?
Having never seen it before, it looks like it was made with clipart.
It's cluttered, messy and each individual element is poorly made.
It almost has a "so bad it's good" quality about it.

You know what looks good on a flag?
Symmetry.
Make something simple and symmetrical, something that stays in your head after you see it once.

My proposal: make it the spitting image of modern Illinois, have some dude in a Bass Pro Shop ballcap with a F-350 giving people the middle finger while drinking seven cans of White Claw and a seagull's on the edge of the bed pecking at a Big Mac and there's empty dispensary weed bags on the ground, it will stand the test of time because this image hasn't fucking changed since the 1980s everything is that fucking stagnant.

And where's the nigger representation? Gotta have a Hi-Point and fent in there somewhere too.
