No thread dedicated for Quake? Time to fix that.
You know, I didnt play much of Quake until Quake remastered came out and you can say it made a fan out of me. I knew the series and its impact before but, thanks to the fucky procedure of getting a source port that works properly, I wasnt able to get too much into it until the remaster came out.
Played all the add-ons, the newest one looked amazing given the game it was building it out of but Im disappointed by the lack of new weapons.
Was Quake 1 just ultimately Doom 3D ? Yes...but it was a damn fine Doom 3D that brought an impact almost as big as its 2D counterpart. The lovecraftian appearance and aspects were genius, the soundtrack was ambiental and eerie, as if even the music had been affected by the lovecraftian influence. It wasnt metal rock inspired like Doom's was but it still held its own charm and it helped make this game. I could go on and on over how much I loved this remaster and how it should set a standard of how a remaster should. Upgrading the original but without taking anything away and even giving the option to make the game look more akin how it did before, in the end its able to satisfy veterans and new comers through it.
But what you think? What are your thoughts on Quake? Its gameplay? Music? Lore?
Is it possible this remaster is just testing the waters for a possible Quake reboot Doom 2016 styled? Is Quake 2 remaster a possibility too?
