My two cents on the morality argument. I know I am new here, so feel free to disregard it.
Firstly amoral and immoral have completely different meanings, but are used interchangeably in this thread.
On the one hand, if no one had ever done any trolling, there would be much material, which is the main reason most of us are here.
One the other hand I think it is a reasonable moral distinction to say you can follow Chris and participate in this forum, but you shouldn't actively interact with him in a way he would not want.
My personal stance on "Megan" hinges on one thing. Was this recent Megan kick the result of an unreleased contact by "Megan", or the other way round.
If a troll kicked of this most recent round of obsession, he is potentially putting Megan at risk of being in an unpleasant or even dangerous situation. I think that is a no-no.
If this message was the first one, and a response to the obsession, it seems a little more grey to me. Has Megan (the real one), really been brought more into it than she was before? She is already an unfortunate victim of this situation, and I don't see that the email really made things worse.
There is a risk it will escalate things, and actually bring Megan into it, which would be a negative outcome. There is also the possibility he was going to write or say something nasty to her for real at some point, and now he has an outlet that doesn't actually involve her. Both of these seem unlikely, it probably doesn't make the slightest bit of difference.
So well I don't think I would do something like this, I don't feel as strongly about it as some of you do.
