r/antiwork - Yes, it's exactly what it sounds like.

How will society function without jobs?

They may think the Star Trek society could work IRL.

Not just the automation, but the post-scarcity and everyone magically getting along too.

The Star Trek society would never work with these people. In that society people still worked, not because they had to but because they wanted to. These neets want to fap to trap hentai all day.

Would any of these individuals even Be compatible to any society?

In a sense they're created by our society. Benefit schemes rewarding non-working people and social leftists courting these demographics for votes enable their continued existence by pretending their outlook has any real value. The only society that's compatible with them is one in decline.

Exactly. In Star Trek there is no money (at least in the Federation), unlimited energy, unlimited food, easy access to free high quality medical care, and free travel. Most food, goods, medications, and materials can be acquired instantly due to technology. Society experienced a major shift. Instead of people working for the benefit of themselves and their immediate family, they instead started working for the betterment of humanity via service to others. Humanity became more altruistic because they had the luxury to. People no longer had to look out for themselves, so they could work towards bettering themselves, and the pursuit of knowledge. But until we have the technology to rid our world of scarcity, famine, and poverty, we will continue to need a society built around jobs and money.

This was in a crosspost from r/Australia.

Unsurprisingly, anti-workers went apeshit over it. :story:

This thread is dead, but I'm reviving it because the subreddit is still alive and well. Now that covid has hit them and the BLM riots have riled them up, they are more autistic than ever, having reached 150k subscribers recently. Here are some screenshots you can laugh at.

These spergs are unfortunately on to something.

Automation and globalism might ultimately mean a society where there isn’t enough work for everyone. We sure as hell cant make a living of streaming and selling soap to each other.

But it sure as hell won’t be some utopian, communist paradise like these idiots imagine it.

Think more of a pyramid with the ultra rich on top, a 20-30% that live comfortably, and a huge SNAP/UBI underclass who live in cramped one or two bedroom UBI apartments, live meaningless lives barely scraping by and spend years on waiting lists for schools and months waiting to see their UBI doctor.

Their whole: “Welp, just tax the rich” narrative is dumb and autistic. Take all the wealth from Bezos and you’ll have under 700$ for every American. And how many Bezos are there?

The future could be shitty indeed, but these speds aren’t dreading it or trying to prepare. They’re fucking EXCITED about it.

That's life for these people as it is. They live in tiny studio apartments in "hip" cities (mostly coastal with scattered inland ones like Austin), live off their trust fund or barista income, and have a life devoted mostly to meaningless consumerism of "hip" media like anything Disney puts out. If they have friends who exist outside of Twitter or their hookups, it's a few other people who live this lifestyle. They don't need a doctor because they're young. They don't need school because they've already graduated and just have all that student debt (or parents paid for it). They definitely don't need to worry about having kids, because their only kids are their fur babies.

No, it won't be utopian for them (they'll always find something to complain about), but they'd hardly notice if everyone else was forced to live like they are. Hell, they'd tell them to stop complaining because THEY'RE happy living in a pod with their three cats.

They’re gonna end up with the Earth society from The Expanse.
