8-months severance is fucking awesome BTW, I remember being insanely jealous when somebody I knew got laid off with 3. These people have *8 months* to find a new job in the private sector, and if anybody asks why they left they can just blame doritos hitler. If you find another job early you get to collect two salaries for eight months. If you don't find another job early you get 8 months to play CoD or pursue whatever passion-projects you never had time for when you were working. That they think they're getting a raw deal just goes to show you how lazy and entitled these fucks truly are.

I've been in manufacturing for my entire career. The standard is _1 WEEK PAID PER YEAR_.
In order to get fucking 8 months, you would need a service length of THIRTY TWO YEARS.
I have NEVER seen that severance package.
Yes, I have known a FEW people that worked that long, but they never get fired . They know their job better than anyone and became irreplaceable.

California's wasted billions on a high-speed rail project, that changes every couple of years. I remember seeing signs of it in the late 1990's, and the plan was to get a high-speed rail between Los Angeles and Las Vegas; and on paper, this is a very good idea. Because when the weekend hits, hundreds of thousands of people drive the ~300+ miles from LA to Vegas on Friday and then back Sunday night. Having some sort of train system would alleviate gridlock, cut down on traffic accidents, and a whole host of other problems, on top of helping mid-week tourism. Well, decades and millions to billions of dollars later; they're now looking into running high-speed rail between Los Angeles and San Francisco. No one really knows who this will benefit outside of the upper class people, because San Francisco doesn't have the tourism draw that Vegas has. So they've shifted plans, and ate billions of dollars, and have nothing to show for it, and still pretend it's gonna happen... going on 30 years.

I think a train between SF and LA would be a good thing. But let’s be real, they could have built an entire fucking rail network over the whole west coast with the amount of money they have already pissed away with the SF-LA debacle.
