I've had a look through, there's some funny stuff but honestly, I hate using Reddit so I probably won't trawl for more. But this post epitomises things quite well.
Disclaimer, not an American, but I would imagine there are lots of very competent people and those who do important work. The thing is, neither of these groups worth their salt would be quaking in their boots about downsizing.
Either they take the offer and get paid just as much if not more to work elsewhere, or they sit comfortably and watch this go by.
To me, people upset fall into two camps. Career bloats who went into and stuck with government work with the intention of being senior enough to find a cushy role where they loaf off all day and cash out for an early pension and are upset they can't pull off what is effectively a long-term welfare scam, or the professionally useless who take advantage of it being much more difficult to get fired who know damn well they can't do shit in the real world.
Finally, I think this subreddit is emblematic of the sorts of people who work in government to 'make a difference', to try activism from within. You were not voted in, you have no authority to force your shit ideas on people. This mindset is big problem with the UK civil service and I'm glad to see Trump kicking a beehive up at these people to remind them that as public servants you are subservient to the will of the people, not custodians who decide what is right because you know better.
If you considered quitting because you don't like the guy the public voted in, you should never have been hired to work for the government of any democracy. Eat shit.
