Plagued /r/TNOmod and the Reddit HOI4 modding community - When a subreddit for a video game mod turns to utter insanity

Heydrich's redemption path is weird and a little creepy to be honest. Guy was a brutal and genocidal military dictator during his administration of Bohemia and Moravia, not to mention his other positions. Why people want to write fanfics about him being secretly a good guy and just misunderstood is beyond me.

You wanting to portray him as human, and not a caricature of evil is one thing. What TNO does is another.
Is the SS civil war still a thing?
How the devs can keep something like that in game while removing everything else and still keep a straight face is beyond me.

The only time I actually played TNO Germany was to play Goering and go on a wild ride into the sunset to destroy that fucking nightmare of a world by ending it all with the "Fall Rockwell" event the mod is officially completely worthless. It was really the most fun path for Germany, the closest one to actually being a proper HOI4 game and ironically enough it was not THAT unrealistic. (I explain further later on this comment.)

Nah it had plenty of thing to break, especially with how garbage and overly autistic the devs were/are. Your first few focuses were all about going the equivalent of Nazi-Boomer and restoring "the real glorious wermatch that won our war and the good old days". Then there were a bunch of focuses and events about cleaning house and the local wars, where you would invade the closest Reichskomissariats that broke free (or just re-integrate them into the Reichspakt if they are still nazi) in some quick wars (I remember a particularly good event for invading the Dutch. Goering tells them they are gonna send a delegation to re-establish the ties to Berlin and sorta halfheartedly throws the fact that they need to comply or else be invaded. And he and his cabinet are just baffled when they get a message back from the Dutch telling them to go fuck themselves they are not coming back. "They refused? What? I mean... I guess tell the army to invade then. What the hell why would they do that?")

The thing is it quickly becomes clear that Goering is not actually the memetic "eh just invade it all we are the best military things were good when we were invading so invading will make everything better again!" he sounded like on the dev diaries and the pre-release. It quickly becomes clear that he is jingoistic but not actually that insane, but he has locked himself into that role by his supporters and his persona towards them. Think of it as the equivalent of selling himself out to the military industrial complex, except this is the NAZI MIC and said MIC also has the entire and unconditional support of the entire armed forced of all branches and veterans. He NEEDS to keep feeding it, which means he needs to keep invading and increasing military spending, even when he knows it won't work or he can't invade or it won't pay off.

Your wars really needed to encompass the Blitzkreig meme. You had a timer to get it done because the war economy can not sustain itself and if you take too long the thing collapses and Goering gets coup'd by another militarist (It was not implemented but it would eventually be Schonner whose plans were to prety much make "Every man a soldier" and just have a continent sized Volkssturm meme going on).

The War Plans come in tiers. You start with the local sattelites that broke free, then then perifery of the reich who are too independent for your tastes or worse, broke off, then you retake Russia and get rid of Himmler for the crime of having razed Goering's favorite vineyards to build his retarded doomsday cult state and Roma Delenda Est to really return to tradition of the good old Goths. And finally you finish off by declaring on either Japan or the USA a which point you cannot win because nukes and game over. (The game even lampshades this with a event on he US invasion of one of the militarists wondering why they are bothering to even get on the boats and cross the Atlantic to naval invade NYC since he knows the yankees are just gonna nuke them and he knows there is no way to win but figures out "Befehl ist Befehl" and that is how it is meant to be)

As you all can tell from this big ass text wall yes I am MATI this is a perfect show of how the entire fucking mod has collapsed. Realism my ass nothing about this mod was ever realistic, and even if it was realism comes in different shapes. A militarist and jingoistic empire collapsing because it created a ponzi scheme where it could not stop making war is actually one of the most realistic ends to a Nazi Victory and given all the retarded things already in the mod it makes perfect sense, if they wanted more "realism" for the a path all they had to do is make it a little harder to get to the end plans of war against Japan and/or USA and expand the "lose" condition of Goering getting coup'd to involve a economic collapse or similar.

Fuck these bitch ass trannies.
The last time I played TNO was a Goering run, it was a fun time of trying to invade everyone quick enough and blitzkreig through each country. I was having a great time until Italy developed nukes a week before my invasion kicked off…

I haven’t played the mod in a long while, I didn’t realize what had been happening. It’s a shame, but I guess I’ll go back to Kaiserreich or EAW if I feel like playing modded HOI

They actually are removing Heydrich's SS civil war and "reformation" for the same reasons mentioned here, that Heydrich historically was a monstrous butcher who wouldn't turn his back on the Nazi ideology nor would he regret the massacres he took part in and ordered.

TNO and it's consequences have been a disaster to HOI4.

A lot of the issues highlighted also come from people being too stupid to realize why some things were done in TNO or why it could work for one setting/idea or not other. It's kinda like with Hollywood or Triple AAA games desperately trying to copy what is popular without understanding why it is popular, like Universal trying to make Marvel out of their monster universe or EA insisting on adding operator-like characters for Battlefield 2042. They are just assuming that "TNO was popular and it had super events and narrative, so all mods need that to be popular"

It's amazing to see how Panzer, for all his fucking retardation and political sperging of going from Stormfront to Vaushite, seemed to actually understand how to tard-wrangle the trannies and autists of the dev team to put the OG mod out.

Makes me wonder how decent the mod would have been if he gatekept them out of it. Probably just as shitty, HOI4 has a bad habit of attracting political autists, and while redditors will sperg about how it's dominated by right wingers, the very vocal and active majority is always leftists.

Actually this does explain why they all like to claim certain mods and the game as a whole are right-wing dominated. 'Rightwingers' and I use that term nebulosuly, are more likely to be critical of open commie wanking in mods.

I think the mod might have been released sooner and not have had as much drama if Panzer had actually put the work to be competent. The mod was quite fun, and did a lot of cool things. It is indeed a disaster that it turned out as bad as it did. The bad accumulated and in the end overpowered any good that there was.

And yes people complain about HOI4 and Paradox games in general of being "right wing" because people who play it seem to understand history and are far more willing to just go "what the fuck are you going on about "trans rights" Stalin would't even have sent you to a Gulag he would just have had Yagoda shoot you on the back of the head jesus christ" against them, which OBVIOUSLY mean they are all nazis. Because anything other than constant, glowing praise and support might as well be gas chambers and jackboots to trannies and commies.

Have you ever seen the film Bandersnatch?
It's about a kid that tries to indie dev a narrative computer game about player choices and alternating pathways, but slowly goes nuts over the course of the film.

Haven't touched TNO (and HoI IV for that matter) in over two years, because it's all SO FUCKING TIRESOME. So, the troons have - from what I gather here and elsewhere - removed or altered a lot of the shit I liked about the mod:
>Burgundy
Cucked and then cut? Why? If anything this wasteland was a fair representation of what would have happened in Europe if the Nazis had won and Himmler was still relevant enough to influence policy: death camp galore, starvation and superfactories polluting everything.
>Himmler
Cucked, now perhaps Führer-candidate for whatever stupid reason.
>Speer
Cucked even more than in the Go4-ending, wtf. Speer had a lot of cool shit going on in the original Panzer-release, holy fuck.
>Göring
I had so much fun with that fatso, it's unreal and the troons took that away from me? Fuck this shit. I mean... building a ludicrous SUN GUN is the batshit insane stuff I signed up for in the first place. But oh no, the troons have to be the fun-police, like they always are.
>Heydrich
"oh no, you see, he was probably the good guy all along". I hated it back in the day when the neo-Spartan with hyperborean aesthetics shit was removed from Heydrich's focus tree, I hate what they have in store for the Blonde Beast now even more. Fuck all of this stuff. That man was pure evil, let him be evil in the fucking mod, too, instead of gutting all of what made him so frightening and nightmare fuel.

Even the brainstorming for contemporary mods builds on TNO designs.

This is generally where most TNO-inspired (or even just post-TNO) mods, TNO submods and updates fail or outright spontaneously combust due to being unfinished. While most mods operate on "do something already" basis - autism was well spent on figuring out cohesion/consistency after the long-overdue realization that ST is not going to release in full at once in the closest 5 millenia. That cohesion was unique to our team which while not made it be done in 3 nanoseconds - has tremendously reduced the amount of times there were tard fights over lore or idealism. There were fights had nonetheless but it was primarily that OP was pearl-clutching 24/7 (selfadmitted), Kuz did overall a better job btw.

Things that killed development were:
  • Trying to one-man large mechanics or ideas, or even worse doing that with pursuit of perfection - per standards a more-than-decent job is fine even if you're under a TL who's an egocentric megalomaniac desperate for a finished product.
  • Under-documenting - "yeah, this effect exists sure, but what the fuck does it do and how?"
  • Operating on done/not done basis - even if it currently looks like shit - you did something that you can polish later.
  • Straying away from the core design and not considering the player experience whatsoever - an idea might be awesome but if the execution hits the shitter nobody will bother.
  • Over-researching - refer to the last time when someone had read theory too much and started fighting over it instead of actually contributing anything.
  • Don't be a shy bitch with a possibly good idea - feedback is the most vital part you can have

After most issues that were impeding development got addressed (~summer last year) work actually kicked into higher gear. IMHO Silicon Dreams is what legacy TNO in general wanted to be, both in terms of the mod and internal structure - a coherent piece which is intricate and interesting to those who bother to read it and involve themselves with its lore. The only issue with SD is that the effort was spent into a sidenote-worthy tag at best, instead of something more meaningful to the entire setting of the mod. Although given the reich team's inability to hear, see or in any other form or way perceieve criticism and pushes for change - this would've been understandable if Guangdongs only point was setting up an example on how TNO should be reworked and/or expanded upon going forward. The content pack itself reads incredibly like an autism passion project (because it is) to the player because while having aesthetic coolness and domestic content it barely offers anything else to the table.

However I should note that generic tard fights, tribulations and revelations have not ceased happening - most recent being TFF getting entirely torched but its members are allowed stay as formers on the comserver after being teambanned - not keen on the details myself (I genuinely dont give a shit, some TL might shed a light on here from an alt, which I incredibly doubt (nobody fucking cares but the parties involved and they want to keep it private) ) but I think leads and notdevelopers are fearing their laundry might be dried out here by the former TFF team.

TNOfication is not a bad thing in of itself - it provides a set of informal guidelines for lore-centric mods. However, due to the sea of nuances in both story building and internal development structure/cohesion any TNO-inspired or TNO-inspiring project usually falls flat.

Now a complimentary display of a certain incredibly sane asian who is practically blind to things happening right under his nose and blissfully unaware that he was talking to the same person he hates frequently, while seething to a literal wall since about February 2022:

God, I fucking hate the names "Kuz" and "OPAsian". They're both braindead retards, and OPAsian, please get a life. Galahad won't suck your cock just because they're living rent free in your head

The reason that every single one of these people's mods fails spectacularly is because they have absolutely no understanding of how actual events take place in the real world they think Hitler literally said Jews are bad
And he magically gain political power instead of the complicated political maneuvering that the Nazi party did with the amount of the electorate they had.
And that Adolf Hitler was not stupid he was actually a political genius who used every event that happened in Germany to his advantage.

These people literally think that the Soviet propaganda is actually accurate I have friends who grew up in the Soviet Union they have no nice things to say about it and they much prefer the United States of America.

And the vast majority of these people's left-wing political ideological masturbation one is not accurate to what those people actually believe and two most of those people had very little followers

I think the bigger problem is that the game they try to make a political oriented mod around is probably the least political focused Paradox Game not involving space. Vicky and CK are all about politics. HOI4 is for World War-ing. If your mod is all about politics in a game focused on war, don’t be surprised your mod turns to shit.

Unsure how to retroactively add the reply I missed, so.
I like it, for the most part. It's broadly fanfiction at this point, but that's essentially by necessity as they leave game-covered areas. I do have some nitpicks, like that they're seemingly never going to make a "fucked-up city" sort of area unless they have to. Places like DC, Boston (lolnever) and Vegas feature detailed conflict within a single metropolis and surrounding area, but aside from those canon examples the mods typically make all their fanfic factions fuckhuge (relatively speaking). It does make since, given performance and such, but I do hope they don't make places like NYC contested between, at most, two groups rather than the utter chaos it'd probably be if Bethesda made it.
Also yeah, the Enclave situation is a retarded one (though submods help) and there's never going to be any playable factions that draw from, say, confederate aesthetics when they do the south. It's the issue with HOI4 mods that even the best will be held-back in scope by obligatory political sperging, some more than others.
I also kinda like that EaW-Fallout crossover mod they made based on the fic.

Every attempt at a TNO-Redux has been a massive failure.
The Yandere Sim Hate Game Theory. When people try to make to make a 'Yandere Sim but good' in order to spite and 'pwn' Alex, it always fails and the makers end up being just as much lolcows as the person they're a-logging. I thought the original 4chan TNORedux had potential since I've seen stuff like Pokémon Clover end up working out great, but nah man, TNO is so buck broken with that tranny curse that it falls under the YSHGT.
