Plagued /r/TNOmod and the Reddit HOI4 modding community - When a subreddit for a video game mod turns to utter insanity

  • 🐕 I am attempting to get the site runnning as fast as possible. If you are experiencing slow page load times, please report it.
My guesses for why they tried to take it down:
1. NORMALIZING NAZIS IS BAD
2. HoI4 IS A SERIOUS GAME FOR SERIOUS PEOPLE
3. Personal butthurt (?)
4. Being a malicious dipshit. Like when I was 13 and played Counter-Strike with aimbot just to piss people off. I'd argue many people have an edgy little shit phase, but some don't grow out of it. And by now we all know here how mentally developed the HOI4 community is.
Also Age of Imperialism manage to revoke the copyright strike and is staying on steam.
The claim system is a joke in general. You need to provide your personal information to make a claim, as well as a "counter-claim" if I recall correctly, but there's zero verification so you could probably give your name as Adolf Hitler and it would go through. Both parties get each other's data though, so it's one way to get someone's dox if they're dumb enough to use their real information I suppose.
Krebs Minimap looks based, I would download that.
Now we need Hitler throwing his pencils as some wunderwaffe tech.

The Chinese Warlord era mod is out for Chinese New Years.

Fuck anyone who thinks this is acceptable. Release finished products. Don't be like big gaming.
Gave it a try since it's premise was promising, but unfortunately there's not a lot to do or see besides the impressive map. There's one tag that looks to be designed to fail, which is a bad sign if the creators continue to expand upon this. Given the historical context a mod where you can lead a warlord from the biggest podunk in China to national leadership is a niche begging to be fulfilled. It's surprising they might not do something like it, given how Russia is consistenly still the most popular content in TNO.

It's currently very barebones, as you might expect from an initial release, but I think it's worth keeping an eye on. If it actually gets updated, it could prove to be quite a good mod.
It does feel half finished and could've used another year of development. That is a problem with a lot of hoi4 mods that has come out recently.

That's what makes the modding scene for this game unbearable now. All the new releases seem to be half baked trash or they get stuck in development hell and never release.
Do you think we've already reached the peak of the hoi4 modding scene and it's only downhill from here with a few exceptions?

The bestest mod ever for CK2 (Clean Slate/CK2+) came out after CK3 was released so there is a hole at the end of the tunnel we just need to get there first to see if there's a a light there or not.

It's like developers have no faith in their content to be able to carry itself after release, so they release it in patches in order to milk it for as long as possible.
It's for the dopamine rush of people talking about it on Discord and Reddit and asking them about the "lore" like it's a goddamn religious tome.

Honestly depends on if TFR ever releases in my opinion. It would probably be the first new big release since TNO or TWR(I can't remember for the life of me which came out first) and the first decent modern day mod. As it stands though, hoi4 modding has definitely peaked.

I haven't played it yet but I'm usually willing to give barebones mods a pass when they change the map to hyper focus on a region, its a lot of work to do and just being able to play in an enlarged region can be fun enough on it's own without content.
